Microsoft Edge Insider preview builds are now ready for you to try

Enable in "Windows Features" - open search > enter "features" > select "Turn Windows features on or off" > (see below): Reboot will be required.

It is greyed out for me as I use ESET but it may be because something recently (Windows Update or ESET Update) forces Defenders "Periodic Scanning" off which was on before as it even states in the GUI it can exist along side your own AV in this state.

If I enable it and reboot its off again.

While I may be "epically" wrong, I don't believe that there is any connection between WDAG and Windows Defender per se. WDAG creates a Virtual Memory mode (i.e. environment) in which the "Application Guard" (AG) browser runs. The choice of name for the VM environment is, IMHO, unfortunate and misleading (if not downright wrong) given that WDAG isn't really an AV tool at all. It is, literally, a VM "sandbox" within which the AG browser runs. There is limited, interaction permitted between the VM environment and the OS environment which inherently limits or prevents malware from the web from jumping into your system.
