Yes, I did click on save.
Thanks for the reference, and that is exactly the problem I am having! Seems more people are very upset with MS about this issue.

I wonder why it worked fine before the last update?

The whole reason why I don't want anything contact any site is as previously explained.

Thanks for the reference and yes I am aware of the move to dump MS Edge. Personally, I think MS is just giving in, I like MS Edge.

BTW, I fixed the issue, but I don't know if I should publish how I fixed it ......

The reason is the same as why quite a few of Shawn's tutorials do nothing anymore, but I don't know if this is because of WIN Home or if affect all versions of WIN 10?

I will PM Shawn and discuss with him to see if the fix I found is suitable for placing in open forum.

So here is the solution to this nonsense with the newtabs option.

    Run this tutorial. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/114907-disable-web-content-new-tab-page-microsoft-edge-windows-10-a.html

If the tutorial fails, then use regedit to get rid of the following entry in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MicrosoftEdge\

Remove the key starting with" Protected completely i.e. delete it.

Protected - It is a violation of Windows Policy to modify. See aka.ms/browserpolicy

    Then run Shawn's tutorial again.

Works is WIN 10 Home. Not sure if the other options are also disabled in win 10 Pro. If so then this registry fix works.
