In this new version, the "focus mode" already works.
In version 111, the favorites bar works as it should be, that is, if the toggle to "Show favorites bar" is disable, that bar continues to appear in the NTP, as it works in the "old" Edge and in other browsers such as Chrome.

But using a laptop in a nice sunny but cold morning (3 deg C) Conservatory and that Black theme is really hard to read to make sense of your screenshots.
That said I can't see why on earth I'd want to switch from FF -- from what I see on the screen it's cluttered etc. I prefer a BLANK screen with decent favourites on a top toolbar like FF or IE11. Since I don't do tweets or other social media I don't need all that (IMO) rubbish and it just seems to make the whole concept of looking for info quickly just unuseable. Often I just want text as well and a lot of times the audio and video feeds just get in the way of what I want to do. If I want video / Audio etc I've got SKY, NETFLIX, KODI etc.
-- OK maybe just to try something new but the standard Edge was hideous enough and I'm sure combination of Google and Ms would eventually be an unmitigated disaster. !! Errors of Both big companies would go into huge Resonance !!
