    backing up Mozila Thunderbird

If I simply back up the Thunderbird profiles folder and it's subfolders will that be backing up everything I'll need? To restore Thunderbird do I simply copy the saved profiles folder over to the newly reinstalled Thunderbird? May I also assume saving the profile folder will save the email server settings also?

I would go to the C--users--your user name---appdata--roaming folder.

You should see a folder there called "Thunderbird".

I'd copy that ENTIRE folder and paste it into the same location to restore Thunderbird.

That folder contains your profile and some other stuff.

I do that every time I build a new PC and it's worked for me.

I make a manual backup of that entire folder every month or so.

There are applications that will do this for you automatically on demand, but I just do it manually with the mouse.

I deliberately use an older version of Thunderbird, but as far as I know the same procedure would work on current versions.

Going from memory, I'm not sure if that would include email server settings. Maybe so, but I'd make note of them separately in case they aren't included.

The original question is puzzling: Are you going to install a new copy of Tb on the same computer where the current version is, or on a different machine?

If the former, you don't need to do anything; if the latter, here are instructions:
