Email contacts not imported correctly for use in Windows 10 Mail

I'm trying to import email contacts from Thunderbird into Outlook and thereby be available in Windows 10 Mail. However all the email addresses were not filled into the proper field - i.e. the email address field. Instead they were filled into the "Contact Imported" field. I exported the file in .csv format from Thunderbird.

It looks like I have to manually enter the email address for every contact

Any idea how I went wrong?

Was this Outlook.com or Outlook 20xx. Were you giving a chance to "Map" the fields?

Do these contacts work, that is as you start to type a name does it appear in suggestions?

It's outlook.live.com. I didn't notice a chance to "Map" the fields. How do I do that?

Yes, names appear in the suggestions.
Thank you Caledon Ken for your prompt response and your time.

The product you are importing contacts into either gives you the mapping option or doesn't.

This would be a process if Ootlook 20XX

Simce they work there really is no harm in label unless they are not mapping properly when you sync phone. What do they look like within phone contact app?

Open your saved exported .CSV file in a Spreadsheet application like Excel, Google Sheets etc whatever.

Correct the fields and then save as a .CSV file again.

Then use the corrected version to import into Outlook.

This video uses Google Sheets, but any similar spreadsheet application could be used like Outlook online Excel.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it.

Helmut, great idea! I should have thought of that I was able to open in Gnumeric Spreadsheet. It still looks like I have to edit many of the contacts, but this should certainly make it easier. Also using "Sort" should easily identify duplicates.

    Thanks again!

    Best Regards,
    Steen

UPDATE: I discovered I couldn't save in CSV format from
Gnumeric so therefore selected to use Google Sheets.

UPDATE 2: Does not work. Outlook still does not put them in the correct fields. I'll just edit each contact individually in Outlook.

You get something similar in Gmail. It says contact imported.

As the contact works there really is nothing to fix unless email doesn't show when required, say contacts on phone.

Contacts work only if their email address has been located in the email field within the People App. That is why I needed to edit the contacts where the email address was not in the proper field.

I would also report this on feedback hub. People should be able to import contacts and have them work.
