Some text in Chrome is broken up & unreadable

Today the text in drop-down menus, lists, and other random areas is broken up. Sometimes if I scroll the affected area off screen and back on, it will become readable.
Edge seems to work fine. I installed the latest Windows updates today(Wednesday, 3/13), and I'm not sure if it started before or after that. Attached is an example.Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Rusty
P.S. As I was writing this, I found that if I highlight an entire word or sentence, I can't edit it. I must place the cursor next to it and manually delete or backspace to type and change it. Maybe this is a related clue?

Since yesterday's post, I have tried uninstalling this week's two new updates, a security update for Adobe Flash and a Windows update. I thought I could remember their exact names, but of course, now I can't. Still no love from Chrome.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, but I have to host a weekly video chat show on Friday and Monday nights and I don't want to blow up my settings and disappoint my audience of old guys(like me) who build and compete with aerobatic model planes, Lol. Next Tuesday is when I can do that with time to recover.

Worst case scenario, I can recover Monday's Macrium system image, but I seem to corrupt a few picture files(and who knows what else) whenever I do that. Otherwise it's always a quick-fix for me, a former, but no longer power user. My skills have deteriorated ever since the relatively stable Win 7 arrived... along with my brain cells and hair getting gray.
    Thanks,
    Rusty

I'm having the same issue with Chrome, and like you said Edge seems to be fine. Have you found a solution to this by chance?

Try adjusting clear type (Go to "Control Panel" > "Fonts" > "Adjust Clear Type Text" and follow prompts)

I tried that twice and it didn't work. It seems to be an issue with Chrome itself since it doesn't do it in Microsoft Edge?

Okay I had to restart my computer and the adjust cleartype seems to have done the trick after all!

I forgot to mention I had tried the Cleartype fix first of all, but no change. I'll do it again and reboot again just in case.
I followed the links posted above and none of the examples are nearly as illegible as mine, as can be seen in my first post. I found if I highlight the broken text it's perfectly rendered, but only while highlighted.

I'm going to re-read the pages in the suggested links and see if I can get any results. I'll report back with whatever happens.

It seems to be a known problem.

    Okay, reporting back...
Well that was interesting. I re-did the Cleartype fix. First I turned C.type off and just clicked through the 5 examples without making any choices. I cold booted, and the problem was gone. Text in some areas was goofy looking but legible. Then I reactivated C.type and made careful choices in the 5 examples. Cold booted again. The problem appears to be fixed, though it's a little early to be 100% sure.

The other oddity I mentioned; selecting a block of text and trying to edit it still doesn't work, but only on this forum as far as I can tell with limited testing. In the TenForums text editor(simple or advanced), I can select a word or a sentence, and typing over it has no effect. It just dumbly ignores my typing actions while remaining highlighted. I have to manually insert the cursor and insert or delete, etc. Anywhere else, like my other favorite forums, the text editors and search boxes work normally. I ain't worried about that unless the problem spreads, and then I'll open a new thread for that problem. For now, I'm marking this one as "Solved."

Thanks, people. Without your replies I may not have retried the C.type fix again.
Oh, bye the way, would you recommend reinstall the two new updates I removed when this first started?
    Have a great weekend!

I know it's marked solved, but I just wanted to share a link that may also help some.
