HTTP on my Win10 machine only?

I'm considering opening a website development section, a test-bed of sorts, on my Win10 machine, which is limited to my machine and does not connect to the WWW, and is only accessible from my machine. Is this doable? How easy it it to setup? Are there any easy-to-follow guidelines for setting this up?

First what are you wanting to use on the website sql, php, html? At the simplest you can just create html files share a folder and then from another pc click on the html file and you can go, the other is to run a webserver like iis, apache https://www.howtogeek.com/112455/how...-on-windows-8/

If you want to do it properly you need to set up your own local web server on your PC. This will have an IP address of 127.0.0.1 and will only be accessible from your PC. I have found WampServer to work well for this. Don't worry, only the title of the link is in French, this link takes you to their English language page.

    WampServer,
    a Windows web development environment.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache2, PHP and a MySQL database. Alongside, PhpMyAdmin allows you to manage easily your database.

Yep. I want mysql, php, html. I'll checkout your recommendations of iis and wampserver. Thank you. Any other recommendations? It should not be REALLY difficult to understand or use.

Well, it all depend on what you want to develop. WordPress is a good way to build a site. There are a lot of free plugins and themes available, and commercial ones too.

Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS WordPress

Or do you want to build a forum? There's BBPress for WordPress, or PhpBB which stands on its on.

    bbPress.org

phpBB Free and Open Source Forum Software

I have run all of the above on my WampServer under Windows 10.

Or you could want to write the HTML from scratch, w3schools is a good site to learn that.

OK. I tried to download WAMP from the link recommended. The download failed after 10mb. After I recovered (more about that in a sec), The logs say the download crashed. But this was particularly nasty crash. After it. My computer was very, very, very, slow. When I rebooted, the computer start was again, very, very, very slow, and even after 2hrs of waiting, it had not rebooted, with lots of problems (mostly blank screens). It probably took 5-10 boots, all very, very, slow, before I got a broken boot to completely boot at all. And another couple of boots before I had any kind of acceptable bootable computer, which I was very leery off. I double checked for viruses, and hard disk problems. All seemed clean. But I remembered 1 comment on the Wamp page saying, installing Wamp made his computer unbootable. It was explained why, and it seemed logical. But my experience, sounded a lot like that, although my system crashed when I was simply only downloading Wamp. Of course, on the face of it, these cannot be connected. But I'm now very leery to again try to download from their website.

I think that Wamp is probably going to suit my needs as a comprehensive suite of programs, to do exactly what I want to achieve. But no way am I going to try downloading it from the same link again. Could somebody post another downloadable link for this package? So I could install it and continue my testing?

I'm also leery about the reply to the aforementioned complaint. Where they said the problem came about because the op had not followed the install instructions, to ensure one dll was installed before trying to install the package. So I presume we do have the ability to check this before we launch the install program. Which would seem normal.

Also any suggestions about what might have caused this to happen and to watch out for. Would be appreciated.

I'm not a noob anymore with Windows 10. But I often feel like a noob. I am far from being an expert. Although I know the way around computers generally, and can build my own, although nowadays, I prefer to specify, and let the seller build it :)

The easiest way is to enable IIS (Internet Information Services). Press WIN + R, type optionalfeatures and click OK

Select Internet Information Services and click OK:

To run IIS, type IIS in search and press Enter:

Now you have a local web server, and can build a local site:

Your local site can be found on URL file:///C:/inetpub/wwwroot/iisstart.htm:

Yep. But then I've also got to additionally add stuff to this, like phpMyAdmin, anything else?

I'm sorry to hear that. It downloads correctly for me from the official link (I used Firefox).

And (after installing the required Visual C++ redistributables) installs and runs in the latest Windows 10 1809.

You would seem to have other problems with your install or Windows 10. See if sfc /scannow makes any repairs.
