Firefox - search with google irritation

On my workstation I've had Firefox for many years, updating as required, and now at 65.0.2 (64bit). A short while back I recall seeing a bar pop up under the URL window as I entered data, with suggested search results a la 'search with google' I found this irritating and managed to remove it but can't remember how other than I think I changed something in the about:config settings.

Yesterday I installed Firefox 65.02(64 bit) from scratch on a new Win10 machine and the 'search with google' bar pops up again. I've searched for ways to remove this but can't find any solution that works. What's also odd is that the about:config shows different entries than my workstation version for browser.urlbar....... etc. I'd have thought they'd have been the same.

Any suggestions on how to remove this irritating pop up bar?

    Thanks

    Hmm, tried this:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...stions-firefox
but doesn't seem to have any effect..

Best to consult the FF forums, as most specialised and relevant. Trouble is they keep changing the thing..

    Please see:
Unable to turn of search suggestions after upgrade to Firefox 65 | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support
and let us know if the userChrome.css approach worked. That would be a pain!

    I searched for
    disable search dropdown firefox 65.02

Thanks for your reply. I'll try the css approach later and let you know the results. Mind you I have no idea what any of that means

It is actually just a text file- can edit it in Notepad.

I've used it (if not present, create it), to place tabs below the address bar (old style).

It's back The last update to FF 67 and now 68 has made this problem re-occur. The userChrome.css is still present but not having any affects.

Any thought on what I should do now?

    Thanks

Suggest you post in FF's forum, or search there to see if anyone has a solution. This is application specific.
