Get rid of internet explorer

Hi folks

Windows (aka) File explorer and IE11 are intertwined quite tightly with each other -- so while you could disable the IE 11 GUI bit the underlying parts of the file browser will still be there. Just leave it - Ms will have it removed when there's no need for it any more --the fact that IE11 is still available in the 20H1 (skip ahead builds) means that some components are still required for windows file system navigation.

You could feck things up beyond repair! Trust me, I do it all the time just cuz I think I can! There's a high price for curiosity!

I am sure Jimbo45 is correct, Microsoft will remove IE components when there is no longer a need for them. But don't expect that to happen any time soon. The problem is that much of this is for reasons beyond their control. There is much in Windows that Microsoft would love to remove but can't because it would break existing applications. I am sure that even today developers are using IE components in their products. The reasons for doing so are just too compelling. And then there are older applications. Experience has shown that old applications hang on and remain popular even when there are better alternatives available.

Edit: I am sure you could fully remove IE components if you were willing to take the time. But you must accept that this may break applications that are important to you. As others here have suggested, it is best to leave them alone. There is more to lose than gain in their removal.

I definitely found issues with just deactivating IE 11. For months I could not get hyperlinks to work in any of my MS Office programs. Just for the heck of it, I reactivated it and bingo - Office hyperlinks working again!

I'm surprised to see the existence of an app that removes Edge or pretending doing so. Its implementation is deep in the architecture and it is hazardous to play there.

Removing IE in control panel is good enough with some extra tweaks in Internet Options. Both browsers are grabbing in some ways our Internet traffic and they are irremovable. Ccleaner cleans them and the rest is equivalent to playing with fire. The end result will affect stability.

You don't like them,don't open nor use them. Some informational links in the Settings menu bypass the default browser in favor of Edge. What happen to them when removing Edge? Tell us now that Edge was removed? Has desktop environment remained stable?

In order to save time, the next time you open a bug ticket, tell us that Edge and/or IE were removed.

Give me something to try and I'll try it even if it breaks. I don't see the Edge link anymore, but I downloaded the Zip file... So far, there are no side effects. Plus, the given cmd line for IE sets the machine the European way.
