BTW, when I checked MaxMind, your location was shown as Sanford, North Carolina, United States, North America

I'm not sure how you got my IP address to test with MaxMind? I tried to remove my IP from the postings here. If you used 47.132.80.1, that's close but not mine (last two octets are different). I don't know why this address showed up in the early part of the tracert I did. Doesn't matter, Sanford is close enough for GeoLocator results. I usually get a response of Lillington, NC. from MaxMind (also close but not very).

You are trying to help me so I don't want to get into a disagreement with you but my best understanding is that all ISP's distribute IP addresses via DHCP except when dealing with larger companies. My router says that my IP was acquired via DHCP. ISP's do issue long leases on the DHCP addresses so you don't get a new one if you simply don't put your cable modem online for a few weeks. I believe it would be an administrative nightmare to issue static IP's to hundreds of thousands of customers. Either way, it does not apply to this scenario other than that my ISP refused to let me have a new IP for my test purposes.

I cannot answer your question about what my IP address was when this problem started (a few years ago). I've been so busy trying to make sure I didn't publish my IP online and I never wrote down the original one from the beginning. I can only say that my memory is not as good as it used to be but my current IP address does seem to have changed and the change seems to have occurred since or about when I bought my new router. I cannot guarantee it though.

I have not ordered anything from Canada or other International companies or installed any software that thinks I'm registering from Canada recently so I am not yet going to close this issue. I think I just remembered a company which is based in Canada which showed my "shopping cart" currency in Canadian funds. I'll give it a try and see if it is in US currency. If it is, I will close this issue, otherwise I will wait at least until I have ordered something from the UK or China to see what currency they quote.

I used something like that IP, it wasn't necessary to be that precise when your ISP owns such a huge block and they all point to the Charter Head Office. I can't recall exactly but they own something like 47.132.xxx.xxx through 47.135.255.255. Yougetsignal.com naturally shows all of these registered as Ottawa, Ontario. I didn't check every possible IP but did query many at yougetsignal, MaxMind and IRIN.

Please feel free to point out any errors I might make, I've not worked professionally in IT for more than 5 years and the memory could be fading. I also could be mistaken and the company may have used DHCP for customer equipment. I rarely chased IP faults with customer equipment, everything I worked with was Headend related and definitely static IP's. I had labels on every switch and device at my site that included IP and associated Gateway because I obsessed over making outage restoration as fast as possible.

Hopefully your IP grief is over and won't return after you get a different IP at a future date. My fingers are crossed for you also. Cheers,

For what it's worth Michael, I have not worked professionally in IT for over a decade. I worked for a large computer manufacturer for my career before retiring in 2009.

Thank you for your help and if you ever get any details in any form of response from yougetsignal or MaxMind or any response or clues at all, I'm all ears. It would be comforting to know how the problem went away short of likelihood and probability.

I will mark this issue as solved even though there is no hard reason to explain its resolution.
