Hyperlinks are not working in any email app.

I have seen earlier posts regarding this but the suggested fixes have not worked for my problem. The hyperlinks are not working in any desktop email app, viz. Mail, Yahoo, Google, TouchMail. What is more is they do not work in the online versions either. Realizing this is probably related to defaults I have examined: 'by file type, by protocol, by apps, by program.' The procedures described do not seem to be quite correct for my OS, perhaps they are out of date now? In particular there is a reference to 'click the all box.' I cannot find an 'all box.'

    Advice please?

    Hi clayto

If you go Start > Settings > Apps> Default Apps > scroll down and select Default by file type.

When window opens scroll down to .url

It should be set to Internet Browser (not a browser just Internet Browser)

Would you consider just "Resetting" to MS defaults. Not sure how many programs you have installed. Resetting all might mean a lot of work for you to re-establish.

On the right hand side of screen when you've click on default app there is a reset

Can you recall what might have happen just before this started? ( Installing software, problem diagnostic, window updates, new AV)

If you just mean resetting default apps to MS that won't be problem as most are there anyway, the only exceptions are pdf(Foxit) and media (VLC). I am not sure at what point the problem 'appeared' as I had not clicked hyperlinks for a little while, maybe a few days. However, I am doubtful that it will do much good. Regarding 'what happened before' the answer is not much. AV has been changed to Defender from Norton so unlikely to be that. I did disable a number of Start apps & services so will look at the list to see if I can recognise anything relevant.

Restoring the default apps to MS did it ---- hyperlinks are now working! Something so simple, but not obvious as the only ones 'restored' are for pdf and media. Anyway, many thanks. It is an example of not realizing how useful something is until you lose it

Alas, hyperlinks have stopped working again! This morning I am back to square one. I have tried resetting all the default apps and restarting but the hyperlinks are still not available. I get the notified like the one I pasted above.

    Now that is interesting.

    When did you remove Norton?

I would look into Norton removal tool available from them. This gives a more complete removal.

You said you disabled a number of Start apps and services. How long ago was that? I can see killing apps, they deliver so much nonsense, but services. Well I would do that but only with a complete Macrium backup available for a quick restore.

I removed some apps and services from Start with the Wise Startup Manager, only a few days ago, as I am following advice regarding RAM usage. I may have been a bit reckless, but no new problems surfaced. Anyway, hyperlinks are working now following the install of October update yesterday, which seems to have cured this and some other issues. The main remaining problems are that I cannot install paid for Store apps and I cannot create a Yahoo Mail account in desktop apps.
