I have a new HP and now a faster router (thanks, Compumind!) so what browser can best take advantage of my new fast internet without bogging me down with also sorts of ad's and other things. Microsot Edge seems OK but I prefer Chrome.

Chrome has always seemed pretty fast to me in terms of processor overhead so I don't think you can do hugely better with another browser. That's rather vague so hopefully there are people here that can hook you up with some real side by side comparisons giving you actual data.

I must admit though that Edge is not bad. My son uses it and he is happy with it and has never complained about pages loading slowly.

If all browsers used the same tricks as Edge (loading before Windows sign-in, pre-loading Start and New tabs, speculative loading, not actually closing but just hiding) in order to appear faster then the (year-old) claim may look different.
If you prefer Chrome then use Chrome... plus use some of the tutorials here to stop Edge's default behaviour (and reclaim a bit of processing oomph for your benefit, not Edge's).

As I have worked on different browsers over time. For now, I would say the best of browsers would be chrome as it provides instant results and I find Google very friendly with the user interface. taking to other browsers like Edge, I don't have any comments related to the browser. Yes I find that browser is quite good and provide results instantly. But currently serching on chrome for my up to date queries.
Been using Edge now for a couple of years. Lately using Chrome just to keep up to date with it as a back up browser. However i'm using it more and more now. Both in their "default" configurations, Chrome is noticeably faster and doesn't hang up like Edge will from time to time.
Browser does not matter that much, most are Chromium based (including future Edge), except Firefox.
For starters make sure to setup fast DNS, like 1.1.1.1. or 8.8.8.8. Clear cache and cookies occasionally.
Block trackers and tracking cookies (blocking ads might cause slow downs and issues with webpages).

Wow, no one uses FF but me. I'm not ashamed, I'm a FF man from waaaaaaaay back and don't see any reason to change.
Plus, I just added a laptop holder to my buggy so I can surf the web when I rest my horse (I never text and drive...)

these days with decent processor and internet speed the browser speed itself is insignificant compared with say delays caused by load on target site, general network traffic load, what the target site does, DNS (URL) resolution, annoying confirmations pop up where every site seems to ask you to agree to some stupid cookies announcement or other assorted processes running.
Personally just choose the browser(s) with the interface that you like best -- I find FF good and I'm not an IE11 hater as it has IMO easily the best favourites organiser and layout. I tend also to dislike applications on a computer that don't have proper menus -- I'm not treating a computer screen simply as a large mobile phone screen !!!.
