Anytime anyone ever tries to suggest a change of any kind to the Google Chrome Dev Team, they simply respond with something like "That would make the code-base too bloated and not easy to maintain". I don't know if its just plain laziness or the fact that they are just in love with their own product and of the mindset that its perfect the way it is and if there's a problem its with the end-user.

I think you're right...must be an ego thing with them...LOL

Problem is that the new Edge with Chrome inherits the same problem...Too bad there isn't a browser that uses Chrome base but has coded to give it the better web page rendering like Firefox has...

From what i read that extension was made from Opera browser with Chrome but before Google dropped the coding from Chrome that gave the better font rendering! And i guess we can't count on either Google or Microsoft to do anything about it in Chrome and Edge w/Chrome...

I did go back to using Chrome again (with the Font Rendering Enhancer) which makes all the difference for me...but if the extension should disappear or stops working properly, i'd just have to return to Firefox as my main browser...permanently....

I have tried soooo many extensions, with marginal success, including Chrome Font Rendering Enhancer, Legibility, MIdnight Lizard, Oswald, Stylebot, Black and White, and others I don't even remember.

My current go to is Dark Reader, in dark mode. I would prefer to have something that works in normal (light) mode, but so far nothing else renders pages as consistently readable. Hope that helps, FWIW.

In case anyone finds this thread later on like I did, there's a Chrome Extension called Make Chrome Text Black which solves this exact problem. Costs $20 a year though.

Don't know why something like this doesn't already exist for Chrome.

Hi, there is a new Chrome extension to try: Google font super enhancer (it is free). It works quite well for me.

Thanks, I added it to Chrome and it does work great. Gray text is now darker and easier to read. The extension also works in Edge.

    Thanks.

I'm going to bump this old thread. I'm finding more sites becoming tone deaf and implementing thin and light colored grey fonts making it very difficult to read. Any recommendations on Chrome extensions that actually make a difference and haven't been deprecated (both requirements).
