    YAHOO MAIL and email apps

I see from searching there are others who have a problem similar but not the same as mine. For no reason Windows started to report that accounts in the Windows Mail app needed fixing. Google was not affected but Outlook and Yahoo were and many attempts to fix them failed. The procedure to add a 'new' account simply did not work. I was advised to uninstall / reinstall them, which worked for Windows Mail but not for Yahoo, which I have used without bother for years (and is still OK on my Android tablet).. No one has so far been able to advise me what to do.

At first I thought it must be a problem specific to the Mail app, but not now. When I installed a couple of other apps from the Store, I was not surprised when one gave me access to my Yahoo account because it is only (but is still useful) a front end to the online versions of the apps, with which I had been able to access Yahoo from the begining. But the other one, an impressive app called Touch Mail is also unable to add my Yahoo account. Which I presume means the fault lies with Yahoo itself. What I get is a report that, while the account is listed (unlike with Mail) it is 'unable to connect'. Neither Yahoo nor Microsoft's forum or my ISP have as yet provided a solution.

Can someone assist, even if it is only a link to a relevant conversation in this forum?

    Hi clayto

Yahoo has been going through some changes as Verizon lays its hands around the product. You get messages if you try to access the web view on the old IE with a desire to push you to a new browser.

I recognize you are using app I only mention as it relates to things happening at Yahoo.

Any chance you have two step verification on for Yahoo in which case you need an app password to access.

Just for my clarification, you are trying to access your Yahoo mail account through your Windows 10 mail app, correct?

You might also see if any Credentials are being stored in the Windows Credential Manager for Yahoo. (Click start, type Credential Manager)

I think you would be better off on the BT forums as it is specifically an ISP provided Mail Account. BT changed some users from using BT Yahoo Mail a while back to BT Mail for which I think Gmail is the supplier.

So this is a BT Yahoo Mail, or BT Mail, problem whatever it is for you. That you will have to find out.

I have a couple of Yahoo Mail Accounts on the Windows 10 Mail App works fine, but they are not BT Yahoo Mail accounts.

Thank you both for your suggestions and the links. I did try BT Support itself at the outset but only got a suggestion which did not work, likewise Yahoo. I have not tried the BT Forum yet, because my experience there (on issues some while ago) was not fruitful, but that does not mean I should not try again. I posted here when I saw so many members had encountered similar problems so thought it might be worthwhile, plus at first I assumed it to be a Windows Mail issue..

I know BT YAHOO has been messing about with its email service for a long time (literally for years) and the account has needed 'fixinging' several times but I have not been notified of any outcome or consequences (except by scammers who jumped on the opportunity!), and I did not know about the possible involvement of Google, so now I will check that out. I have been a customer of BT for decades without much to complain about. I hope that is not changing.

I usual recommend to people to get of supplier email accounts. They use them to hold you on their service and pricing schemes.

Normally it is straight forward abandoning an email account. Within the supplier account set up an automated response (vacation response) telling people who have emailed you that your address has change. This gets the word out. Then in same supplier account set up mail forwarding keeping a copy on the supplier account inbox.

Periodically sign into supplier account and check who is still sending you mail to old address, clear inbox and contact stragglers.

This especially works well when you are not in a rush.

Of course there is the issue of updating logins where you used the supplier address but this is a one time effort.

I did not get any useful help in the BT Forum, and after an adviser told me in a phone conversation that BT does not provide assistance related to desktop email apps I submitted a complaint. However, before I received the scheduled reply I resolved the issue myself. Instead of selecting the YAHOO option in the Windows MAIL ADD Account menu I tried OTHER. It worked. I now have my BY YAHOO mail back in MAIL, and some (I have not yet checked all) of the other email apps are recognizing it too.

I hope this is readable ---- post OCTOBER have not been able to enlarge fonts or use some other settings in this site, a problem that affects EDGE but not OPERA, so I am going to make the latter my default until this bug is eliminated.
