    Outlook Mail account failure

I cannot use Outlook Mail on my PC which now says my account details are out of date. I cannot fix it, as when I try all I get is an error 0x80090016. Other email accounts used via Outlook Mail are OK, and it is OK online when used as webmail. My account details are all correct.

How do I get it back?

Try a repair install of Office or delete the offending account and reinstate it.

I do not have Office installed.

The same problem is now affecting a second account, except that in this case the Fix panel to re-enter the password does work. However, this lasts only a couple of seconds until 'Attention required' re-appears.
Is it possible that this trouble is being caused by a new email app I installed from the Store (to see what it is like), or is that only a coincidence? Anyway, I will uninstall now to see if that clears the problem.

You are using the Windows 10 Mail App. Best to state that clearly first otherwise everyone gets confused with "Outlook".

You can Delete the Account and set it up again. Right click the Account > Account Settings > Delete Account.

Also you can go to Windows 10 Settings.
Settings > Apps > Apps and features > Mail and Calendar > Advanced options and scroll down page to RESET.

You may have to Uninstall and get it from the MS Store again.

Uninstalling the other email app referred to above has had no effect.

Are Mail and Outlook Mail two distinct programs or just two names for the same thing?

The problem is reproduced on my Lumia Windows phone, so it is not hardware related as I had suspected. On the other hand it is OK on my Android Tablet (fortunately). On the Android I click Outlook to get the same Mail app I get on the PC.

I will as recommended, uninstall / reinstall the Outlook account.

The version number you gave was for the Windows 10 Mail App. That is how I know what you are using.

I have 2 Outlook Mail Accounts setup with that Mail App, but also Yahoo and Gmail Accounts. In all 4 different Email Account providers.

The error message relates to syncing, it could just be the MS servers in your area has problems, it does happen now and again.

I don't have a Tablet, Windows phone etc and don't know what Apps are available for those.

I have clickable Live Tiles with Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail written on them but they are all for the Windows 10 Mail App.

Also Desktop shortcuts to the Webmail access but they are labelled Webmail so know what I'm using.

There are definitely two distinct Outlook programs. And, it looks like there may be three?

It seems the one you're using, according to @Helmut is Mail, which is included in Windows. Then there's https://outlook.com which may or may not be the same as Mail . . . I've always used the Outlook app which comes with my subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus 2016. This is Microsoft's "big guns" email client.

If you need more than Mail or Outlook.com can provide, you may want to take a look at Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office | Productivity Tools for Home Office

There're several options, depending on how many computers you have . . . I have four and my daughter has one, so we opt for the yearly subscription that gives us five installations; one for each computer. If you only have one, you could opt for one computer @ $69.95 per year.

Here's a pretty good explanation about everything Outlook:
