Windows Live Mail Error - Your Server Has Terminated The Connection

When Windows live mail support ended in 2017 I changed the settings from deltasync to IMAP and it worked fine. Than gradually the server became unstable and I keep getting the error message, "Your Server Has Terminated The Connection". Sometimes it will work fine and is reasonably fast. At other times it hangs and is totally unusable. Then following the advice in the thread below I changed the IMAP server settings.

I have also set to run WLM as administrator and in Win 7 compatibility mode.

On the first day it worked great. Then it went back to its old unpredictable ways. I have also changed the WLM timeout settings to the maximum of 5 minutes but this still doesn't help. Your advice would be appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Chris

The application is no longer supported, all that will happen is that it will become more and more unusable.

You have to move on to a more modern application.

I suggest moving to eMclient. I can import from WLM. eM Client | The Best Email Client for Windows and Mac (beta)

Thank you all for your replies. I was hoping to patch up WLM and keep it going, but changing to a more modern e mail client may be the only way to go. I need an e mail client that will be able to import about 20Gbt of offline e mails as store folders. I will look into eM Client.

    Kind regards

I was in the "dark" regarding outlook.com & windows.live email programs until this week. I loved my windows live email account & was so disappointed when Microsoft discontinued it. I still tried to use it at outlook.com but it did not display correctly & was so difficult to navigate that I gave up. I kept my account because I have that email address on every form I have filled out for years.

I found another free email provider that has a nice format but emails don't always get delivered or received, which makes it worthless to me. So, while searching for another provider I ran across one tiny article that Microsoft has a new app to replace hotmail.com, outlook.com & live.com in Windows 10.

The app is Mail & Calendar, and will handle all your email accounts from several providers, including gmail & yahool. When using an email account, the heading displays which account it is. I have never been a calendar user so can't comment on it. But, I can say that this app is the best alternative I have found for Live email & is user friendly because it is basically Live Email.

I am baffled at Microsoft for not providing detailed information about the app when there was such an uproar from users for discontinuing the Live email.. All I could find when searching was articles on how to download Live email in Windows 10, which must be a pain. And, why in the world they are using the same name,Outlook for the both the old and new email accounts is beyond confusing!

If you already had this info,.sorry for the long post. But, maybe you can help pass it along to those who don't. app. Had I known about it I would have saved so much time getting another provider.

Thank you for your reply. The Windows Mail app in Win 10 works well but the problem is that it cannot store mail in offline storage folders. Everything has to be on the server. It also cannot import offline WLM storage folders. WLM configured for IMAP works well for G mail but is unstable for hotmail accounts. So to continue to use a hotmail account there are various possibilities.

1- Continue to use WLM configured for IMAP and put up with the instability.
2- Use the hotmail/Outlook web interface
3- Switch to another e mail client. (eg Thunderbird, Outlook for PC, eMclient etc)

    Kind regards

Thanks so much for the info! I hadn't gotten that far in using Mail & Calendar. If I understand it correctly, my folders in live.com & hotmail.com will not transfer to Mail & Calendar, right? Have you found a better email server?

In the end I decided to go for Outlook 2019 for PC ($). It works fine with Hotmail but there is a learning curve and I preferred the options and interface in WLM while it was working. You could try Thunderbird (Free) or else try eMclient or another third party e mail client. You can continue to use WML configured for IMAP with g mail accounts without any problem.

    Kind regards
