    Download to fixed folder

My files are basically in a mess because I haven't got a fixed folder for all downloads. I'm not sure what logic 10 uses for saving files. But I seem to have downloaded files all over my disk. It's going to take a month of sundays to clean it all up.

Can we define a fixed folder for file downloads, and possibly a separate folder for image downloads? Any other tips on storing downloads would be appreciated.

Your browsers define where to download. On Vivaldi this is where it downloads to,

It could be you use different browsers that have different locations for downloads set.

Expecting Windows to make something smart is like expecting a toddler to get an university degree.

Try something like Free Download Manager - download everything from the internet

Lol, even MS doesn't expect it. There is a default download folder alright but behind several layers of folders. Sticking in the parent folder of C: partition would be too easy to think of.
Fortunately most download is done thru a browser and they have own options for that. I chose my Firefox to download to a specialized folder on F:\ disk but can also download specialized downloads like for instance pictures to D:\ Pictures, music to Music folder or just to ask every time.

MS was still bothering me, where to save everything, it wanted to save pictures to pictures folder, documents to documents, videos to videos and such. Ever since I have removed those folders, it is quiet, since it is confused and let me to save, wherever I want to, I download to desktop, not to downloads.

No, but Windows takes precedence, when you use explorer window to download or move files.
Like in this case, Windows would detect .jpg, so it would automatically pick Pictures folder.

What browser are you using? I know Edge, FF and Chrome can have the default set.

"Save As ....." is a little different, it remembers the last place you saved an image, etc.

It asks only first time you do it after that it always goes to same place as chosen. FF always sends file to chosen folder, doesn't ask windows at all.
