IS there any way to run Internet Explorer 10 under Windows 10?

A friend purchased a new Acer laptop with Windows 10. Her workplace requires her to use IE 10. IE 11 is not compatible with whatever she is doing. Is there any way to run IE 10 under Windows 10?
Only way I can think of doing it is by running Windows 7 with IE 10 under a virtual machine.

    Thanks,
    Steve

You could fake a browser's user agent so it appears to an external website to be IE10.
You could be using Chrome or Firefox, yet it reports it is IE 10...

    Starting point:

    You may find IE10's here:

According to my friend the answer is no. She has to run a real copy of IE 10. I don't know why or what she is running. I do know she tried developer mode. Thanks, Steve

As this is a work-related issue surely she should seek resolution from the IT department rather than tenforums.

Firefox used to have an add-on that allowed using an (older) IE engine. An outside possibility would be to use Waterfox (Firefox derivative supporting legacy extensions) and see what the IE extension offers.

According to my friend the answer is no. She has to run a real copy of IE 10
    I wonder why? Is that
    a. Browser identity (user agent)
    or
    b. An issue of rendering that is somehow different between IE 10 and 11

If it's that critical, ask the company to provide an appropriately configured PC...

This has to be discussed, at a minimum, with the Company involved. and some agreement arrived at in writing

When I was running company IT departments, non compliance with the IT Policy was considered as a serious breach of company discipline and often resulted in dismissal. This is not something you wish to happen, as having this type of dismissal on your permanent record is not good for future employment chances

    Hi there
If it's a company laptop then they should ensure you can run appropriate applications for acessing their stuff.

If it's YOUR laptop and they want you to run the same applications then they should provide you with a VPN / Virtual workspace with a logon to the applications required to run the stuff.

Another possible solution is to have W7 as a Virtual machine and run IE10 from the W7 virtual machine.

I'm puzzled as to why any sensible I.T dept would still require software to be using IE10 -- even IE11 is being phased out pretty well everywhere now.

In any case IMO it's the companies responsibility and not yours to ensure you have the appropriate tools for the task they want you to do - either by giving you a company laptop or providing you with an appropriate logon application which works.

    Cheers

The reason for companies using outdated software is simple, it's a matter of cost. the issue is that a company will have a suite of bespoke software written for themselves and allocate a life cycle for the software over a number of years to cover the initial and running costs.

These days it is common to have bespoke software run in a browser, which also has a preset life cycle, which can be totally out of phase with the company software. You can then end up with the browser and the software being incompatible so you are forced to retain the original, outdated or even unsupported, browser, as the bespoke software is a far higher financial outlay.

The ideal system would be for the bespoke software to be modified, and this is sometimes done, but often the modification cost is extremely high and so not financially viable, or the coder is no longer available
