Duck Duck Go and Tor versus Google Chrome and Yahoo

I try to clear the cookies, search engines and the search history from my laptop every week, sometimes every two weeks.


Generally, I use Google Chrome as my browser and Yahoo as my search engine.
I have an email address with yahoo and I like their start page with the current news.

But I don't like getting tracked and spammed.

If I use Duck Duck Go or Tor, would this help?

Should I download Tor and use DDG or are they basically doing the same thing ?

DDG would make your searches private, but you might not get such results as with Yahoo. TOR sure provides anonymity from Google and tracking, but not total anonymity on the internet, that is what VPN is for. SStill, even TOR is a bit overkill, you can use it for accessing some "juicy" webpages only.

So, I should still use Chrome , but download DDG to use as a browser?



When people use VPN's they use that to hide their location, correct?

Do you use a VPN registered to a privacy friendly location like an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
Or do you use something that changes every time you log in ?

As you can see, I am a rookie to these things.....

What is the best recommendation to discourage cookies, advertising, tracking and spam ?

Okay.........I added DDG as my search engine to open as a new tab.
When I right click on new tab I get the DDG search engine but I get a page with a little duck in the middle.
Then, I have to hit the duck to expand him to get the search box
Can I do something to make it expand with the search box open when I hit the new tab function?
