    Windows 10 mail and Verizon.net

I searched but did not find and discussions on this topic...

I recently upgraded both my pc and OS to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I was using Outlook on Windows 7 but decided not to purchase for the new pc and use Windows 10 mail app instead. I have two email accounts, gmail and verizon. I set up gmail using the Windows 10 mail app with ease and instant email sync, but when it comes to my Verizon account its alot different of a feeling.

I am using the exact same settings and ports as I used on Outlook and use those exact same ports and setting on my iPhone to send/receive Verizon email just fine, but Windows 10 mail is giving me more than a headache to say the least and just plain doesnt work. I have searched online for ports and settings and updated and changed so many times in Windows 10 mail app that I feel as if I have tried EVERYTHING. Since Verizon shut down it own email service a few years back, AOL took over. I can log into AOL mail using my verizon.net address and password just fine and send/receive email, and as stated I can do the same on my iPhone. Just cant figure out why Windows 10 mail app wont let me. Below are my ports and settings I am using and used for Outlook on Windows 7 and current iPhone...

    incoming...pop.verizon.net...port 995
    outgoing...smtp.verizon.net...port 465
    all SSL
    all authenticate

The above works perfectly on my iPhone and Outlook, but not Windows 10 mail app. I have followed instructions on updating and checking proxy is off and sync is enabled and privacy settings in mail verified. I even tried changing verizon.net to aol.com to no avail. Tried using ports 993 and 587 but no avail. Tried ports 993 and 465 but no avail. But the above listed ports work fine on iPhone and Outlook, 995 and 465.

Anyone have any idea how to make Windows 10 mail app work with verizon.net mail with detailed walkthru of setting it up? Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I have also tried using both pop and IMAP....no avail.
UPDATE: using the ports and settings; incoming...pop.verizon.net...port 995, outgoing...smtp.verizon.net...port 465, all SSL, all authenticate; I can SEND email from my Windows 10 mail app (an improvement) but still unable to receive/sync.

I dont know what to say, I'm not sure rather to feel extremely dumb or just plain dumbfounded but your settings worked. I know for a fact that I tried that a couple times over the past few days and I never received any mail until just a few minutes ago when I tried your settings once more. Honestly no idea why it didnt work before or why it is working now or how, but I can say this...over the course of writing this thread and receiving your reply, I did an internet search for error 0x80048830 which is the error I was getting when attempting to "receive" verizon mail on the Windows 10 mail app. Let me tell you, there were multiple different opinions and solutions listed and I tried them all from turning windows firewall completely off to adding rules and extensions to running windows powershell. Windows 10 mail would always say "please wait while we fetch your mail" for about 5 minutes with nothing ever showing up before it showed "nothing has shown up yet". When I tried right clicking the verizon mail account, the advanced option was greyed out and still showed "syncing your mail" but after about 10 minutes I would be able to get back into advanced options and no new mail ever showed up.

Honestly I have no idea or clue what happened or if anything I did fixed it, all i know is after I did all that and spent 3 days almost completely reprogramming the windows mail app; I deleted the verizon account for the 15th time and added your settings with IMAP4 protocol and poof I started receiving mail and can still send mail fine too. Super glad you were able to help and super glad it is fixed.....just wish I knew what happened and how. Thanx again Br0die

What really gets confusing for me in Windows is all the different places you can have settings. In mail you can set things in SETTINGS accounts and SETTINGS in App Mail and Calendar and then in the mail app itself in settings.

Has anyone gotten this working? I was at a clients today and tried to set up her verizon.net account up in both Windows 10 Mail app and Outlook on a brand new machine. Neither could get the email working. I tried both IMAP and POP, all SSL settings on and off.. seriously tried everything under the sun and nothing worked. Any progress made on this?

Sure did. tried everything I could find in 10 different threads to no avail. Info was pretty scarce here, so I was hoping you would reply back with some screenshots or more info.

And is this a verizon account or an AOL account? Also, if either.. is there anything you changed inside the AOL account, setting wise via webmail? Cause I tried this about 20 times in both outlook and Mail.

imap.aol.com, pop.aol.com, imap.verizon.com, pop.verizon.com & smtp.aol.com / smtp.verizon.com all with :993:1 and :465:1 ports added and removed. SSL checked and unchecked. SSL/TLS, StarTLS & None in Outlook all tried as well. Turned off two factor auth in AOL settings.. Either mail app would say refreshing but with zero activity or would error out. Outlook would always error out no matter what settings I used.

username@verizon.com & password worked perfectly via webmail.

I was able to add clients gmail to Mail with zero issues.

All Verizon.net mail was switched to AOL a few years ago when Verizon FIOS got out of the email business and all of the someone@verizon.net mail is sent to AOL. This was the same as when Hotmail was bought out by Microsoft a lot of years ago and all of the someone@hotmail.com was moved to Microsoft Outlook. I still use someone@verizon.net and someone@hotmail.com but they are actually on AOL webmail and Outlook webmail. Confusing yes? If I use a web browser to get my Verizon.net mail I go to https://login.aol.mail and login with the userid someone@verizon.net. Verizon.com is still owned by Verizon but Verizon.net is now AOL. Do A Google search for "how to switch email from Verizon.net to AOL".

When you go to mail setting, manage account, add account be sure to scroll down until you see Advanced Setup and do your settings there.

BTW I'm only syncing the email and not the Calendar or People (contacts) with AOL. I use the Outlook calendar and People sync only from Outlook.
