Error Outlook 2010 This operation has been cancelled due to restrictio

In Outlook 2010 I click on a link from an email and I get the message This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.

I tried changing to Chrome as default from Edge, but no solution. This problem only happened after I updated to 1809.

I have tried many suggestions found in Google, but none worked. I hope someone can help!! Running Windows 10 Pro version 1809. This error started after updating from 1803 to 1809.

Try Start, Settings, Apps, Microsoft Edge, Advanced options, Repair or Reset.

If still not resolved, see This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions.

    Errol,

This problem is caused by problems in Windows [Control panel, Internet options] and merely comes to light when a hyperlink is clicked in an Office application. The root cause of the fault is a Registry error regarding the handling
    of .html files.

The Microsoft KB on the subject is at Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook KB310049. They suggest
method 1 [not for Windows 10] automatic fix
    or
    • method 2 [resetting IE in order to alter Registry settings through the UI]
    or
    • method 3 [editing the Registry directly in order to achieve the same result].
If you use method 3 then note that there is a stupid typo in it, the Registry key you need to check is
actually HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.html [i.e. there is no space in the middle of it]

Try3 - Thank you sooooo much!! I used method 3. I used my wife's laptop also running Win10 Pro and it has worked. What I would like to know is WHY this problem suddenly occurred - was it updating from 1803 to 1809 maybe?

    Errol,

I have been seeing reports of this problem & its fix since 2011 but I have never seen any convincing explanation of what caused it.

Several people said it started when they installed or uninstalled the Chrome browser [or, in one case, merely changed back from Chrome to IE as the default browser].
