    Internet explorer will not open

I have suddenly found that IE will not open. When you click on it to open you get the working circle for a few seconds and then nothing.

I have tried using a different user account on the same PC, I have run SFC /scannow which reports no errors, I have also checked in computer management but there doesn't seem to be anything reported. I only use it occasionally for some older sites but it is annoying and I can't seem to find how to re-install it.

I am running windows version 1809 (Build 17763.195)

    Edge works just fine.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Look in the Application log in EventViewer for Application Crash/Hang events pertaining to IE and post them.

Wrong location. Event Viewer > WIndows Logs > Applications. Not Applications and Services.

Have you tried performing a reset on Internet Explorer?

    • windows key + r
    • Type inetcpl.cpl
    • Click on the advanced tab
    • At the bottom click Reset...
    • Click Reset
    • Close the window and reboot for good measure
