Is Brave browser safe to use?

I was using Brave browser for a while and my co-worker told me that it was really spyware. I didn't have any issues with the browser. I don't trust google and Microsoft Edge is a joke. What is the general opinion on Brave?

Have you tried running some PE files in falcon sandbox ? Not sure it will help your concerns. Looks like Brave is just more controversial with its ads and info channels than anything judging by past users. Honestly, I have never heard of this browser until today so I can't comment more on it. You should ask your co-worker what spyware he or she means, something that can identify it would help.

I understand that the Brave Browser purpose is to improve user privacy blocking malicious ads and cookie trackers; it also feature it's own "pay per view" system that let the user to pay content creators, while respecting user privacy, with "credits" that the user gains thru secure ads.
If your expert co-worker is right it would be one of the best organized and financed scam; what it seems to me is a way to try to resolve some actual problems we face with the mainstream ads system as it is today (i.e. malware attached to ads, all kind of trackers in web pages and data harvesting in the wild).
i don't know what the general opinion on Brave is, but it is probably wrong.

I created an account just to reply :)

Brave is completely safe. In fact, it is one of the most safest browsers available on the market today.
I don't think your coworker understands much about this browser by the sounds of things.

Ads and trackers - protects users from mostly ad related networks by removing third-party scripts. Also the same for third-party ads, but intends to provide publishers with an alternative advertising approach. This is known as Brave Ads, yet to be released later in the year. Promises publishers a better stream of revenue.

More interesting to the above comment is the costs associated with being tracked, some users will save an average of $23 a month. With myself being an Australia, data is not always a cheap utility. This article makes sense.

Secure site upgrades - automatically upgrades to SSL on websites where available.

Brave Store - upcoming alternative to the Google Store for extensions, only difference is that plugins are audited and white-listed to prevent security and privacy issues.

Most importantly is personal data - Brave servers never request or store user data. Everything remains on the device.

I've been a strong Brave advocate for just under 2 years now, and with speeds 2 to 8 times faster than Chrome and Safari.. You will notice a difference :)

Thank you all for the helpful posts. My co-worker stated that he had to remove Brave one time from one of our customer's PC. He didn't specify why, but he said it wouldn't allow him to remove it from the PC normally. I think he's either confusing it with something else or he's just basing his judgement on one bad experience alone. I like Brave and will keep using it.

    Thanks guys!
Brave desktop just went through a major overhaul, migrating to Chromium last month. Any uninstallation issues he may of had in the past will now be sorted.

Kiwi Browser is recommended over Brave. It's ridiculously fast, privacy focused with great options like the ability to disable AMP results in Search. Tracking, popup and Adblocking are built in options too.

Never heard of Kiwi browser. I am now using Brave on my cell phone and the ads have definitely been reduced. A few sites I trust, I allow ads to be played on. Thanks for all the helpful tips and advice guys :)
