why is FireFox (and Google) suddenly directing searches to a PUP site?

Staritng about yesterday, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware keeps blocking search results, because the search result wants to bring up mps.eanswers.com. I'm using FireFox V 63.0, 64-bit version. I edited FireFox preferences to remove all search engines except Google from my search engine choices. So as a practical matter, I can no longer do seaches using the search bar.

Only if I first go to Google can I get search results. What is going on here?

Probably you recently installed software that contained a browser hijacker in the installer.

    Check recently installed programs:

Geek Uninstaller - the best FREE uninstaller

Check anything recent that you downloaded and installed.

    Callender:

Thanks for the pointer to Geek Uninstaller.

Have you discovered any problems at all with it?

No problems but it will not always remove leftovers if the program uninstaller left a service running in the background or something. In those cases leftovers need to be manually removed but should be displayed in the leftover files report.

OK Thanks for describing the problem. I just did a search and I'm reading about 10 web pages that seem at first glance to be helpful. First thing I'm doing is changing the master password on my password manager - using a different system to make the change!!
