MS Outlook 2016 - one Junk Email won't delete

Thanks in advance for your help.

I received a Junk Email today advertising flashlights for sale. I've moved the email to Deleted Items, but I cannot delete it. This error message pops up: "An error occurred in the underlying security system. An internal error occurred."

    Windows 10 Pro
    MS Outlook 2016
The Account type is Gmail POP/SMTP.

Try perusing your email using GMail in a web page and see if you can delete it from there. I recommend the use of IMAP email accounts which lets you easily synchronise emails across all your devices.

    Hi Steve,
Thank you for trying to help.

I was able to delete the email from my Chrome-based Gmail but not from Outlook.

A person on another help forum told me that the email was sent with a digital signature and she said "The error message makes sense now - its saying the certificate is corrupt and it can't display the message. .... If not, MFCMAPI should get rid of it - If you need specific instructions, I'll write them up in the morning."

I'm waiting for her to have time to write the MFCMAPI instructions.

If the Gmail account is playing up in Outlook then I would remove and reinstall that account. Google send me an account warning when I first configure a Gmail account in Outlook 2010. I have to enable access for less secure apps in my Google account to allow access for Outlook 2010.

    Thank you, Steve.

I've already deleted the Gmail account in Outlook and reconfigured it. I'm still unable to delete that Spam email.

    Thanks again.

Can you restore message. If so then hold shift and click delete.

If you can't restore can you edit message, save the changes and try deleting.

Unfortunately, I get the same error message with shift-delete. Thank you, Ken.

I can't even open it. I was able to move it from Inbox to Deleted Items. I get an error when trying to open or permanently delete it. Thank you.

Within Outlook 2016 do you have a PST or contacts, calendars or tasks that are only within Outlook.

I ask as I wonder what you happen if you totally removed gmail, from Outlook 2016, and then added it back.
