I have had to change the password for one of my email accounts. I can now access it online but cannot update the password in my Desktop Mail app. The Fix and the Attention needed links no longer offer me the change password option, as they once did. How can I change the password in Mail to the new one?

Have you tried changing it through Settings > Manage Accounts ?
I have solved this problem by removing the email account and reinstalling it, with the new password. It is now OK. However, what seems to be a fault in Mail in not offering the change e password option remains.

Note that it is possible to reset the Mail App or even try one of the Windows troubleshooters as shown in these tutorials (although it is impossible to guarantee the success rates of such procedures and/or their consequences ) :
