Two things I would think would be down pat, mail and networking. I would have teams on both with instructions to fix.
Be interested to see what happens.
Ran into the same issue. App Passwords doesn't work in this instance because Windows Calendar makes you sign-in online, where I can use the same two-factor sign-in as everywhere else. I'd assume that using two-factor is good enough for google to think the app is "safe" so there must be some bug on windows' end. I guess I will just have to look at my calendar in a web browser until they fix the problem.
Hi guys,
I am a first time poster here and not a technology or OS expert by any means. But I know how to link an account to the Windows 10 mail app. I am switching from Outlook to Google for all personal email/account/login/username/etc purposes, and want to sync my Gmail account with the Windows 10 app. I am getting exactly the same error message as Gort when trying to sync. I have gone into my Google account and clicked on "Sign-in & Security", then "Apps with account access". I noted that 2-step verification is off, and I toggled the "Allow less secure apps:" to ON. After doing all that I still get exact same 0x0000008b error image as posted by Gort. The funny thing is that, on that same "Apps with account access" page in the section that called "Device activity & security events", under "Recent security events" it says that Google has allowed access for less secure apps "31 minutes ago", which is when I tried to link my Gmail account to the Windows 10 mail app. Then, under "Recently used devices" it says "WINDOWS - This device". So, Google seems to think that it has allowed the Windows 10 mail app to access it. Does this indicate that the problem is on the Windows 10 side and not the Google side? This is really frustrating because I have a Yahoo account that I tested and had no problem linking it to the Windows 10 mail app.
Thanks,
So I was able to add my Gmail account to the Windows 10 app using the instructions post earlier in this tread, but I can't get it to work and have an "Attention Required" message attached to the account which I have tried to fix but it won't let me. It seems like the Windows 10 app won't save my password for my Gmail account.
Hi Gr8day2play & welcome.
Does your google account use two-factor authentication?
You will require an app specific password if it does.
Hi Bastet, and thanks for the welcome. I think earlier in this thread it was mentioned that 2-factor could be an issue, along with having "Allow access by less secure apps:" being switched to OFF. So I went in to my Google account and confirmed 2-factor is off and allow-less-secure-apps is ON. I keep getting the Windows 10 message balloon in the lower righthand corner of the screen that says "Your John's Gmail account settings are out-of-date" as in the below screen shot. Then, every time I click on the right side where it says "Attention required", it provides "Fix account" and "Change settings" options. I select "Fix account" and am provided the second screen shot where the password field is blank. I fill-out the password, which I know to be correct, and it still does not work. It's like the Windows 10 app won't store the password for Gmail accounts. It does for Yahoo and Outlook accounts, just not Gmail. Frustrating.
