I solve this problem on my pc adding IMAP on gmail config and also, setting Accounts/Add Account/Another Accs(Pop/IMAP). Puting email + senha! Hope this work for u too!

Your process totally worked for me!!! Thanks very much. I couldn't believe it when my Windows 10 email app retrieved all of my mail from my Gmail account. I am stoked.

A couple of things I had to do though to get it to work are (1) I had to delete the Gmail account from the Windows 10 mail app and start over. For some reason it wouldn't let me just go in through the advanced settings and add the app password to get it to work so I decided to just start off fresh as though it was my first try, and lo and behold, it worked; (2) For the Gmail servers I had to add :993 to the incoming server address and :465 to the outgoing; (3) I was confused by your instruction saying to open "Sign In & Security" and look to the right for "App passwords" because the "Apps passwords" choice wasn't there. But this had to do with the fact that I had switched-off 2-Step Verification. Once I turned 2-Step back on, the "App passwords" option became available from which I was able to generate the 16-digit password.

Anyways, I am just a self-employed CPA and I do all of my IT stuff for myself. So when I get something to work it's always an accomplishment for me. Lol. Thanks eveyone for the help.

Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived. I have tried to add my Google calendar in the same way as the Google email and it just didn't work.

Freshmeat - if you have any more specifics on how to add the calendar, I would greatly appreciate it. I generated a 16-digit app password but I can't get it to work.

Hey, I will look into it as soon as I can, I forgot to mention some details because these instructions were made in rush and I literally had to come up with it myself as I had this 0x0000008b error whenever I tried to log in to my gmail on windows mail app... I knew calendar didnt work and sorry I really forgot to mention that. As soon as I have an answer, hopefully a fix I will post another answer to you.

Thanks freshmeat. I discovered something else. Once I set up the Gmail in Windows 10 mail according to these instructions, which worked nicely, I noticed that the Gmail account on my iPhone stopped working. It was obviously because 2-step was turned on. So, I went into Google and turned off 2-step and emails populated into my iPhone. However, I feared that Gmail in Windows 10 wouldn't work any longer, but it did. So, it appears that once you turn on 2-step, generate the 16-digit code and set up the Gmail account in W10, you can turn off 2-Step, which obviates the need for app passwords, and Gmail still works in W10.

Anyways, if I could just get the Google calendar to work in the W10 app, that would be great. Maybe there will be a fix in the next major W10 update. Life used to be so much easier with earlier versions of Windows. There are things I like about W10, but there's a lot of other things not so much, like having to deal with this kind of crap where you think all you have to do is click on buttons and links which led you through a process to seamlessly set things up and then errors like 0x8000000b and the new one I got of 0x80004005 when adding the calendar. Microsoft really needs to start fixing this stuff. Seems like every time they say they have improved something, it gets worse.

Hi gr8day2play. I made this account just to tell you that I managed to make it work. Just follow this clever workaround carefully:
How to add CalDAV and CardDAV accounts and sync with Windows 10 - Ctrl blog

and when configuring your account, let the CardDAV field empty, and in the CalDav server enter the following:
https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/<emailaddress>/events

where <emailaddress> is your google address without the @gmail

* NOTE that you DO need the 2-step verification in your google account

App passwords don't work when the service takes you to the 2FA login, they're for less-secure apps that don't allow this. Yes I did try using the app password, but it failed and the prompt told me to use my regular gmail log-in, along with my normal 2FA login. The 2FA goes through successfully but it hangs after that.

I had the same problem. The solution suggested by freshmeat solved it

But that's just setting up email as an IMAP, which I could have done earlier. I need to sync calendars, which that doesn't solve.

Yep. You need to use the CalDAV protocol for that. Check my reply above:)
