    Yesterday was updated.
    - sorry, what was updated?
    a. the Mail app
    b. you received a Windows update (which?) - see your Update History via Settings
    c. you received a feature update (upgrade) to build 1803
    d. something else

    You could try:
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    - search for the line for the Mail app, and follow the instructions at the top of the section above.

Try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and most settings.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Windows 10 Tutorials
    - from the Tutorial section.

As you've not commented on the update I can comment no further.

There has been a number of updates to the Mail and Calendar App in recent days.
Go to MS Store and update Apps again.

You can also go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Scroll down to Mail & Calendar > Click > Advanced options > Reset or whatever you want to choose.

Refresh your PC Fixes software problems by reinstalling the OS while preserving the user data, user accounts, and important settings. All other preinstalled customizations are restored to their factory state. In Windows 10, this feature no longer preserves user-acquired Windows apps.'
Refresh also will not install use-acquired apps.

Problems with your HDD are something else.
If you continue to install on a dying HDD you have to expect continuous problems.
