    Laptop Edge "Startup" screen

I have windows 10 installed on many PC's and when I do a cold boot I do not get the Microsoft Edge startup screen showing me all the anti-Trump news articles! However, when I installed W10 on a Toshiba Laptop I get the News "Splash Screen" from Microsoft Edge almost ever time I turn it on.

The only solution I have found so far is to rename the MicrosoftEdge... folder in the Windows>SystemAPPs folder. That works but it makes Microsoft Edge go away! I want to keep Microsoft Edge available but I don't want it to give me the "News" every time I boot the Laptop.

What am I missing? How come Microsoft Edge acts differently on a(my) Laptop? I'm not the only one with this issue - there must be some setting somewhere in Windows to change this behavior on Laptops. I am using Windows Home with all the latest fixes and upgrades on the Laptop. The PC's are using Windows 10 Pro with all the latest fixes and upgrades. This is not a major problem but...there must be a better way to control this issue. Help would be appreciated.

    Hi Ken429

What versions are on the devices, you listed Editions. I saw you said they were updated but would like to quickly confirm they are 1803. With Pro you can delay Feature updates and Check for Updates will return No updates available

Windows key + R, type winver, enter.

With V1709 Windows now restarts apps that were running when you shutdown / restart.

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

Is it possible that when you see Edge at startup you actually haven't shut it down from your previous session.

Have you audited what is in the Startup tab of task manager. Is something there calling for your default browser.

While not a fix you could set you Start page in Edge to be something more of your liking.

Under the Apps in settings there is a Startup heading but I don't believe you can add Edge. You can check.

You got back to me a few minutes too fast! I figured out what the heck was going on - all my desktop PC's are set up to use auto logon. But with this Laptop I went along with Microsoft's initial demands and left the Pin logon initialized. Probably a very good idea when using a Laptop.

Anyway, if I click somewhere on the initial startup screen other than the center of the screen where W10 wants the Pin number all is well and Windows skips the Edge stuff. In effect I was asking Windows to show me the Edge display. I finally figured that out by playing with the Edge options and changing the start up display. So...click on somewhere other than the center of the screen when using a Pin or maybe even the "old" Microsoft Account Name and Password sign in. Although I never ran into this issue until I started playing with W10 on a Laptop.

I am using Windows 1803 OS Build 17134.191) on all the systems.

One thing I did notice, when I disabled Edge by renaming the Folder in SystemApps the system boots much faster! Edge must be loading up a bunch of stuff that becomes very apparent when using an "old" and very slow Laptop with an AMD dual core processor.
