During the install of Firefox did you allow it to Import Favorites and Bookmarks from other browsers [different browsers different terms for the same thing]? The Default install usually has a Mozilla/Firefox start page.

What firewall are you using and did you check rule set for something similar in name. Might even be something within firewall to reload default rules. That would get that out of the way.

Could you also please recycle your modem. That is power down, wait, power on.

    Berton: No imports.

Caledon Ken: Defender - never touched it. Router is regularly rebooted.

Note: this evening's boot up did NOT produce MSN. Might have been Garmin Express. Will wait till tomorrow to see.

Can someone guide me through what I might be looking for in Task Sheduler, please?

To pre-empt one stage: in the 'Task Scheduler Library' main folder, in the top-centre pane is over a dozen items, all bar 2 are disabled. Those not are 'Adobe Acrobat Update Task' and 'Intel PTT EK Recertification'

Adobe seems to trigger at logon and every 3 1/2 hrs, and at 5pm daily. Does this sound like a cause? Should I (temporarily) disable this?

May I suggest you go back to Autoruns and that article I posted. At the bottom is a follow on link that shows you how to deal with Logons, Scheduled Tasks etc. Even has some recommendations.

To help diagnose if this is in your Windows environment or your "User" could I also suggest you create a new user with a local id and see if this new user experiences same issue.

    Hi.

During the last couple of weeks I've been trying to locate the problem. Through a process of elimination, through Autoruns, I think I've isolated the cause. The one line, which only when checked, causes the MSN page to pop up is this one:

    Under the 'Explorer' tab:
    Autorun entry: Network Tray SSO
    Description: Network System Icon
    Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
    Image path: c:\windows\system32\pnidui.dll
    Time stamp: 03/04/1902 19:58

Whenever this line is checked the page pops up (usually only in the morning(?)), and when unchecked it doesn't. I now need to find out what it is and whether it is important.

    Great detective work.

Had another member with MSN popping up unexpectedly.

On that locked screen he was clicking to get login password box as I recall and that in turn was summoning Bing to tell him about picture.
