When I Exit Firefox are All Residual Processes Shutdown?

...or do I need to do some extracurricular work? I use Chrome exclusively and even with the increased RAM now with each tab I do not plan on switching. I do not keep the OS regularly updated (still no way to independently update IE, right?) in fact I am also lax with security updates as well however I always keep Chrome up to date. My 2nd browser of choice is an older version of Firefox ESR 50.xx but I am now fearful that it can be a security hazard so I am going to download and install Firefox (used to be my favorite years ago) but I want to make sure that upon closing Firefox that all processes exit with it and that nothing is left running though if Services show something like Firefox updater is always running I am OK with that but when I close it down is it in fact banished so to speak from my system?TIA.

Yes all instances of Firefox will close/shutdown when you close the browser. An easy way to check is open Task Manager, and scroll to "F" (for Firefox), and if you're quick enough when you close Firefox you'll see each process disappear. I say if you're quick enough because if Firefox is open you'll see it at the top of open programs in Windows 10, but once you close it, it will disappear from the top, and go to the "running processes" until all are closed, so you have to scroll to see it happen. It's the same as Chrome if you have Chrome's settings changed from default to not keep Chrome running when you close it. If you don't uncheck that box in Chrome you'll always have a Chrome process running.

Thanks. Not home now to check my Chrome settings but work computer Chrome is this the setting that you are referring to:

SystemContinue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed

And are you saying that there is a similar setting/ preference in Firefox? TIA.

That is the setting. No there is not one in Firefox. I was just stating that Chrome has it, and a lot of people don't know about it, and think Chrome will stop all processes when you close it.

OK. So just to clarity when I install and exit the latest version of FF when I exit FF it shuts down completely and that there are no residual processes running? Thanks.
