Why MS Edge Browser not so Popular?

Despite Edge being one of the secure browsers out there (close to Chrome's security sandboxed environment), why are not so many people using it? Not just from a security standpoint, but its much faster as well. I can think of one simple reason, maybe the lack of extensions?

Being that said, I think I am noticing some slowness in IE 11 as well and maybe MS is doing this on purpose to move people over to using Edge. Its only a theory.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

As a non-Edge user (habit? a pattern of MS aversion borne of frustration with their changing email clients post Outlook Express which pushed me into the Mozilla camp?) I initially wouldn't have used it 'cos there wasn't a Roboform extension. And my favourites weren't there.

But then a Roboform add-on became available- but requires I update Roboform...

Anyway, there are quite a lot of extensions (95 according to this.. despite its peculiar title when posted!! ):

Well Yes IE with all bottlenecks and slow downs pushed me to Chrome, so if it was MS intent to push me to Edge it didn't work. I tried it out for awhile and just got frustrated with all the things it can't or won't do.

I use IE an FF about equally, but all my banking is done in Edge.

For me....it's the convoluted, assbackwards and dificulty that MS makes it to customize it or the lack thereof of customization. MS needs to take a page from Chrome and Firefox on the simplicity of a browser. Then the 14,000 clicks to get somewhere.....

    Amen !

A selection of themes would be a start.

And do keep in mind that Edge is still a work-in-progress. The latest Insider Preview has a banner across the Edge icon on the Taskbar with the letters BETA on it.

I'll stick to Firefox in Private Mode enhanced with some additional controls on top.
IMO, Edge is still a work in progress (still) and I do not like Chrome, except on my car.

    FWIW!

There is a lot of discussion about browsers, especially when it comes to Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. Each one of them has their strong suits and everyone tends to gravitate to their favorite for one reason or another.

Before Windows 10, I exclusively used Internet Explorer and always enjoyed it. People would laugh at the thought of using IE, but I found that it did everything I needed just well and I saw no reason to switch. I wasn't a fan of early Chrome or Firefox at the time. I thought their early UIs were pitiful followed by a cry from the community on memory usage. When I was still using IE, I had no reason to use Extensions and since I wasn't using them and never had used them, I didn't know what I was missing.

With Windows 10, I tried Edge. I liked it for the most part. As an IE user, it was a nice refresh and an enjoyable experience. The problem I ran into with Edge was the constant early bugs and Microsoft's slower response to update it. They still do take a while to update Edge, only giving it new features and fixing bugs in Windows Update Releases.

I had submitted Feedback and still find Edge to be okay as a browser, but moved to Chrome as my daily browser. The extension library is massive and, honestly, it just works really well. Albeit, I am not a fan of being apart of the Google Ownership and Privacy worries.

I recently tried out Firefox Quantum. I was seriously impressed. The privacy worries went away, it was fast, secure, and very modern. I completely left Chrome for months to use it, but what I quickly discovered was some annoying bugs. Such as moving one tab from my primary screen to my secondary one and it snapping back to my primary screen. In the end, it was little annoyances that I reverted back to Chrome.

In the end, it's really just about personal preference. They all do the same thing with the same level of performance and security. For Edge, it is a quick and secure browser, but it has drawbacks including a lacking extension library, slow update releases, bugs, and lack of customization. Chrome may have the extensions, customization, and updates, but contains privacy concerns, performance issues, and being apart of the Google ecosystem. Firefox is a secure extension-friendly browser that isn't spying on you, but things such as an extension-free private browsing window aren't possible at this time. Firefox needs fast feature releases to satisfy their user base.

I would recommend you try all three browsers. See what you like the most. Perhaps reply to this comment with a bullet list of what you look for in a browser. I or we can all help in answering those bullet points in different ways. For example, if privacy was your number one concern on a browser, I would recommend Firefox with some included extensions of which I use.
