Creating an .exe file to run Micorosft Edge.

I have a keyboard with a pad of 18 programmable keys. I use them to run various programs and commands like copy and paste, firefox, crome, Outlook, etc. I have been completely stumped trying to get Microsoft Edge to launch as there is no convenient Microsoft Edge.exe to be found. Instead, MS has buried it in the hidden Rolming folder of Appdata in the user name. The shortcut does not work and the properties of Edge invokes MS file explorer instead of Edge when I use that. There has got to be a way😕

    Hello John,

You might see if you may be able to use the command below for this.

    explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge

Microsoft's universal apps use a different paradigm. They don't use exe's or dll's.

The shortest version that works e.g. from a command prompt is
    explorer.exe microsoft-edge:
    or
    start microsoft-edge:

Here's the command I use to launch via a program / file launcher:

    %windir%\explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge

Unfortunately, my shortcut keys on the keyboard uses "launch program" and it is limited to exe files or grabs the first exe in a shortcut. It will not run strung out commands or command prompts or command lines. So the explorer.etc etc or string that says windir\explorer.exe etc just opens windows file explorer, heh.

You can easily use Autohotkey (free) to define a new hotkey in 1 line.

    Example:
    ^j:: run, explorer.exe microsoft-edge:

    CTRL j launches Edge.

Put the line in a text file, extension .ahk
    Install Autohotkey
Rt click the .ahk file to Compile it, producing an exe file.
    Have that run at startup.

    Sorry, no idea what
    uses "launch program"
    means..

I created an executable to launch edge using an auto hotkey script. Let me know if you want it.
