Stop Microsoft Edge from opening last session instead of home page

I can't permanently stop Edge from opening the last session when I have set it up to open on a specific page. This only happens the first time it is used after booting the computer. Second and subsequent use of Edge result in it opening on the home page as it should.
I have tried all the various methods that Microsoft suggest to fix this and have found that even though they may work the first time edge is opened after implementing the fix the problem invariably returns.

Any suggestions as to a proper permanent fix?

    Welcome to TenForums @jackisback

This may be related to a new 'feature' that was quietly introduced in 1709 that restarts apps that you had left open when you shut down. Try turning off 'Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update or restart'.

    Thanks for your reply Bree.
I tried turning off 'Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update or restart'. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem.

I'd like to turn off or disable Edge completely!

Let's try them again. The first would be to open Settings in Edge and see what 'Open Microsoft Edge with' is set for. Try changing it to 'Previous pages' then close Edge. Open it again and change it to 'New tab page'. Restart the PC and see if the problem returns. If it doesn't, you can then set it for your preferred setting (if that wasn't the new tab).

Do you have a Microsoft Account? If so, is Edge set to sync settings across accounts? It may be that Edge on another device you use is set to open previous pages. Either turn off sync or check that none of your other devices have Edge set to reopen previous pages.

Do you have another sign in for this PC? If not, make a new local account as a test. Does Edge have the same problem in another account?

If none of the above help, or if it is only the current account that has the problem, try resetting Edge for the current account, Step 2 in this tutorial. If all accounts are affected, try Step 3.
