Favorites

Which sort of favourites are these? IE? Firefox? Some other browser? Or some other sort of favourites altogether?

Internet research will help you in what is possible between different browsers and the means to do that.

Note: the question only arises if you are not upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10 on the same PC; i.e. you're talking about a clean install of Win 10 or a different physical PC.

If you mean Favorites created by IE then they are independent .url files and may simply be copied across just as you might copy your other files across [Word files, Excel files, ...].

The default location on both Win7 & Win10 is the same - %UserProfile%\Favorites [or %UserProfile%\Favourites] - so you can copy them there and IE will pick them up without any further action being necessary.

In Windows 10, you can continue to use IE in which case you will not really notice any difference in your use of Favorites.
- Several websites have stopped supporting IE because it lacks the capabilities of more modern browsers.
- IE is, in effect, in an 'extended support period' during which security patches are issued but no functional changes are being made.

In Windows 10, the default browser is MS Edge. This behaves in a different way from IE and handles Favorites differently.
- There are several TenForums threads that can help you with Edge.
- You can import your current Favorites into Edge but it will then keep them in its own database instead of as independent .url files.
- Once you have imported your Favorites into Edge, the original .url files that you imported from will not get updated as you add/delete/modify them in Edge.
- I have not yet changed to Edge because of this difference.
- Beware of old threads that refer to a folder in which Edge keeps its Favorites. It stopped doing that several versions ago.
