Yup, David, did the restore.................didn't work either.
Fought this mess until I thought I'd lose my mind. Tried everything you folks suggested...........in fact, tried everything everyone I know suggested. Finally called AT&T. They ran a test and said it had nothing to do with my computer or modem/router. The cable from the road to the house goes through a field heavily infested with gophers. The technician who came to the house said all 5 lines in that cable were showing "bad" intermittently, which most likely indicates a gopher had penetrated the cable and water had infiltrated. They are going to replace the cable with "gopher cable" in a week or so. So the problem should be solved.
