But what they are saying using a browser and using this method is not going to do anything. what are they trying to do ????? I realize that is a port, but they are entering this into a browser address bar for what ???? all this will do is try and search the web for it or ask you to open it on your PC with a specific app.
http is registered by default to port 80 and https to 443. If you don't specify a port it will use that.

For example you can go to this site with https://www.tenforums.com:443 and it will work (it is the same as not putting the 443). You try another port and it will not as the server isn't responding to requests on that port.

I use port 9091 for my transmission server so have to enter the address as in post 4 or it doesn't work as it only listens on port 9091 and that is the only port I've opened in the server firewall.

    Hope this makes sense.

are you explaining this to me or the OP. Because you are not telling me anything I do not already know. I been in business for over 15 years and serviced over 6000 clients in Home and Business in hardware, software, networking and A/V

To you - your comment that entering the port in a browser doesn't work is false.

I did not say it does not work. I said that using this method seems unlikely for making settings to these settings. It just does not make sense to me. I have never used a NVR using this method for accessing to make settings changes.

Maybe there is a miscommunication here.

Re Running IE11 and accessing a 192.168.0.x address

Goodness, the last thing I wanted was to stir up people.

All of you have given me tips on the way forward. Thank you.

Just to recap on one issue above, entering 192.168.0.1 as an URL should allow me into my router, as it has in the past.

It has to be an issue with my laptop as it all works OK on my wife's desktop.

    Again, thank you all.
