I would first say to reinstall the Windows 10 Mail app: Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

The screenshot shows Windows Live Writer as being the problem. Windows Live Writer ceased working even though the other Live elements still work, there’s an open source replacement if you require one:
If you don’t require it then just run the Essentials installer again & choose to remove it.

Thanks for the replies,,, I found out that it was part of windows essentials and that windows stopped supporting it but that it would still work with windows 10, so I installed it but I only wanted the mail prog and that is what is the problem, so I have now uninstalled it but its not on Microsoft store so I will try again and be back with the results.

It was last developed in 2012. I would consider using the newer mail app. The new app should be in the store.

If your email is hosted on a Microsoft account (MS Exchange servers like,, etc.) you absolutely should convert to using Windows 10 Mail, Outlook apps (Outlook 365, Outlook 2017, etc.), or any 3rd party email client. The email transfer protocol WLM used for Exchange servers stopped being supported over a full year ago. That's why MS felt OK with dropping support for WLM.

If your email accounts are on other types of hosts that utilize either IMAP or POP3 protocols to connect, WLM could still be used -- but there's no guarantee that current or future Windows updates won't remove critical service modules that WLM needs to run. That is probably why you got this error message.

Easiest solution: Find a new email application, or get used to reading your email in a Web browser from your email host's site.

Okay lads you have convinced me,,, The reason I wanted live mail because it looks easy to see where an email came from as it does not do it so easy in windows 10 mail and I have had a few dodgy emails lately I think, so what do you think about Thunder bird.?

I really liked Thunderbird when I used it. This was before Windows 10. Since I have gotten used to the notifications in Windows 10 I prefer a mail client that will use that. I was using Kiwi for Gmail for a while but it had a few annoying things with the notifications that pushed me into using Windows 10 Mail and Calendar. I have since been using Mail and Calendar.

However, if you are not set on the notifications like I am, I think Thunderbird will be good for you. The lack of notifications that are in the Action Center of Windows is the only thing that made me not like it.
