Win 10 email no longer lists all contacts after the 1803 upgrade

    Used to be ....
I would create a new email.
Off to the right of the "To" address filed, I would click on the Contacts icon and I would see a scrollable list of all mu contacts from which to choose.

After the 1803 upgrade, this does not seem to be the case.
When I click on the contacts icon, a Choose contacts dialog opens and for a moment I can see the entire list of contacts.
But then this list disappears and is replaced by the last few contacts I actually used.
I CAN enter some sort of search criteria and that will indeed bring up the contact name that I want.

    Is this a 1803 upgrade bug ?
Or is the above an intentional change from Microsoft ?

    ?

    I figured it out.
With 1803, there are about 80 or 90 blank line or spaces at the top of the list of contacts.
If I scroll almost all the way to the bottom, then I can "see" and select any of my contacts.
Prior to 1803, there were not all these blank lines or spaces in the contacts dialog.
The list of contacts started at the very top of the dialog.
I was worried that I might have lost the contacts in some fashion.
But, I guess this is a Microsoft "improvement" of some sort.

Have you gone in the People app to see if you have contacts in there with no email address, say just their phone number?

Just checked mine after the 1803 version upgrade and all is OK. All updates to Mail & Contacts were done before that.

Just go thru the People App Settings and Filtering options(the funnel icon), links etc.

You may also have to go thru the usual Windows 10 settings to the relevant Apps as well, tedious I know but what can you do. They do sometimes introduce some fancy feature and insist on demonstrating it, so you have to switch it off.

You can get miss-spelled stuff in the To: drop down auto-complete list, I would guess blanks as well. I had a number miss-spelled in there at one time.
In the People App right click the Blanks and Delete. You may still get problems with the To: drop down auto-complete list with miss-spelled items. There is a way of dealing with those, lost my reference at the moment, don't think you will need that.

    Caledon Ken,

I DO have a number of contacts without email addresses.
They all show up, but only after scrolling to get down to them. (Along with the contacts that DO contain email addresses.)
When I click on the contact icon and the contact list opens, it shows all my contacts just for a moment and then that is replaced by "Suggestions", a bunch of blank area and then finally my contacts.
So it looks to me as if the contacts is is trying to show me my contacts but is being overridden by something I certainly don't understand.

I've checked those items you've cited but no joy.
No blanks appear in the people app at all.
    Hmmmm.

So when it shows you blank entry can you right click and does it give option to delete.

Could you share a screen shot. Yoiu may have to modify in Paint to remove your full address and those list.

It's the Auto-complete in the To: dropdown list that is the problem and rather tricky to correct. Some of those are the Contacts in the People App but some are Auto-Complete entries.

From memory(not good....) you have to intentionally enter the incorrect Auto-Complete entry in to the People App. Restart etc and then delete that from the contacts in the People App.
You can't directly delete the wrong auto-complete entries.

Obviously that maybe more of a problem with blanks that may contain spaces or non displayed control characters or something.

You can Google around for an answer but 99.9% is of no use.

    Good idea.
But unfortunately right clicking anywhere in the blank areas, does not give me the opportunity to select anything.
Nor do I get a "dialog" allowing me to select a delete option.
I'm going to attach a jpg of what I "see" when composing an email and clicking on the "Contacts" icon to choose one.
I see a "Suggestions" area first.
My contact appears there now because I sent myself an email.
Then there are a bunch of blank spaces. (Notice the scroll bar to the right).
If I scroll down, almost to the very bottom, I will see all of my contacts (from the People app) that have email addresses.

    Ahhh.
I never thought of non displayable control characters.

As it turns out, based on your suggestions, I spent some time cleaning up my contacts (in the people app) and I never would have done that had it not been for THIS issue and your suggestions,

So, so good many come out of this exercise even if I never resole the blank entries.
