Change Google Chrome Profile Avatar

Is there a way to change the avatar that's displayed in the Chrome browser for a profile to anything other than the presets? I would like to upload a custom avatar if possible.

My avatar in Chrome is the same as my Gmail avatar. It changes for me when I change it in Gmail. Sometimes that does not happen right away. It took over night a couple times for it to update. Once it even took a full 24 hours for it to update.

I have an Outlook account instead of a Gmail account.

Chrome's profile/picture is based on your Gmail/Google+ profile/picture. You need to change that picture for it to replicate/change on Chrome. Even if you don't use Gmail you probably still have a Google account that contains both Gmail/Google+. If you ever signed into an Android phone, or are syncing settings in Chrome, you have an account. If you never started one then the only way to change the default avatars is to get/start/open an account, and upload a picture to replicate to Chrome.
