Weird things start happening when I join any Microsoft Windows Forum~

How closely is this group tied in Directly with Microsoft Corporation?
Anytime I join any group that offers help with MS Windows 10 I start getting unsolicited bug about trying MS-Edge.
If I need help I will ask for it!

The first MS related forums was Microsoft Community. Every blasted time my computer would go into sleep or standby mode the first thing I would notice on a Google Chrome tab would be a tab window about Microsoft Help? I finally had to use a Google Chrome Store Extension "Block Site"

This morning the first thing I see after taking my computer out of sleep mode was an unsolicited tab from Microsoft about Windows 10 help. By unsolicited I mean that from out of nowhere I get something from Microsoft Corporation about windows 10 help. I did not do a google search right before I cut my computer off before I went to sleep about anything to do with Microsoft. I use Edge ever once in a blue moon. Mainly to look at what time on Saturday and Sunday a PGA golf tournament will start or if one of my favorite CBS programs will have a new episode. I cannot watch reruns because I remember too much of the episode. I have great long time memory capacity. I use Edge even less now by going directly to my local channels web page and look at their tv schedule.

I maybe over sensitive but hand holding ended with AOL.com. I am long past that!

That's not a bug, it's an advert from Microsoft You will also see it on many more microsoft pages If you land on a MS Page and you are not using their latest browser you are suggested that you should be.

    You have three options

    1. Switch to Edge
    2. Don't visit any Microsoft pages
    3. Accept it for what it is and try to ignore it

We are not in any way associated with Microsoft, and we do not show ads to any signed in member, (guests will see adverts from an agency to help cover costs ) so you should not see this little annoyance here

Welcome to TenForums by the way

RE: File Manager and or Windows 10 Quirks

Well I am happy to report that I have a Big Juicy Egg running down my face. I know what the problem is and TG it is not malware, trojan horse, or virus. When you are in File Manager (File Explorer) their is an insidious little blue circle with a question mark inside right below the (X) Exit Screen. If you are not careful when you try to exit the File Folder screen and hit that small blue circle it will launch Windows 10 help. I have a shiny red flushed face right now

I understand why it the blue circle is there what I don't know is why it brings up a bing page instead of a Google Chrome Page. Correction I know why it brings up a bing like page but I am not in bing mode I am in Google Chrome Mode!!!!!!

Any Way I am marking this as solved!

When I click by mistake the blue Help circle, an straight forward Microsoft Help page opens up. I also get one of those pages next time I reboot or start the laptop, it opens almost immediately after the Desktop appears. It doesn't have ads, I never see ads in W10, the Help page opens up using Firefox (my default browser). The first few times I saw the Help page after starting the laptop, I couldn't figure why it was happening but eventually I associated it to clicking the Help blue icon by error the previous session using the computer.

    @1ThursdayJC

Since the arrival of windows 10, many microsoft help, [and other], pages will have an option to "View page in Edge" plus any searches actually on the page will use Bing - This behaviour is independent of your chosen Browser and search engine. It's just the way that Microsoft has decided to operate in an attempt to increase the profile and usage of Edge and Bing

Microsoft is not the only one using this type of system ...
If you use our search box on the menu bar at the top right of each page of the forum you will get a customised Google search, which shows mostly our content with a few more general items at the top of the list which would be the top of a google search in the browser search box, We also give the option to only list Tutorials.

This gives our users a better search than we could write ourselves for the "cost" of those few extra , Possibly Useful, items

Re: Solved Weird things start happening when I join MW Forums

I had thought it was a bing virus. Because it was so random. But since I got a program from Google Store every time I made the boo-boo the program would stop Bing from opening up. If you use Cortana to search the web it does it in Edge Mode Not Chrome mode. I just use cortana to access help files on my computer otherwise I come here if I am really stumped. My thinking is all the great minds here probably at one time or another have had similar things happen and can give a few insights. I usually figure out most things by trial and error. I am not afraid to search for answers. Just a few things that I know absolutely nothing about. The internal workings of Networks and the Internet. My brother who worked with ATM networks (Automated Terminals ) in a hospital environment. says that only a few Doctor Level Professors at places like (MIT) are the only ones who truly understand Networking, Routers, and the internet. I am just thankful that the nerdy people saw fit for the rest of the world to have access to so much info that is out there somewhere. Thanks for your insight anyway. Once I figured out it was not the boogeyman or a she-devil that was bringing up Bing/Edge I felt better!!!!!
