Thunderbird had been set as the default email program . it appears the problem is elsewhere . all the defaults had been set .

    32 bit version of Windows?

I've been through the problem of a broken mail recipient and did get it fixed eventually. My workaround- as published elsewhere- was to place a shortcut as I said. That's with 64 bit Windows.

If you mean Outloook- I have no experience of that, sorry.
Yes, my problem is with 64 bit outlook on 64 bit windows, I thought that as I am running 64 bit windows it would make sense to install 64 bit office.

Try the fix in Edwin's post above- that should give you a working Mail recipient.

Many thanks, followed each of the 3 methods and none have fixed the problem, it would seem if I want this feature I will have to reinstall 32 bit office.

Have you tried my idea of simply putting a shortcut to Outlook in the Sendto folder?

And what do you have here?

Create a New Shortcut on your Desktop using mailto:, (with the colon), as the protocol and see if it creates an Outlook Shortcut.

    - could you possibly be so good as to elaborate? Let me help:

    a. Could you complete the task of recreating the mail recipient?
    b. Did it appear in the options in Sendto when you rt clicked a file?
    c. What happened when you then clicked Mail recipient?
    d. Did ou observe anything else significant?

Which is your default mail client currently?

Your answers would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Registry has the correct reference . among the default references there is none from mailto . there is one for email . it is set to Thunderbird .
