At the bottom of the right side there is a heading "Set defaults by app". Through this feature you can ensure all email file associations are set to Thunderbird.

I appreciate this is an old thread, however this is the message I receive if I click on a file and "send to mail recipient"

Win 10 Office 2019 64 bit, been through the whole association piece, and looked at lots of comments all over the place, and it would seem to be a 64 bit issue, but surely there must be a way around this other than uninstalling office and re-installing 32 bit. your thoughts please.

Hi, if you are relying on the Mail app, it won't work with that.

You haven't stated which mail program, if any, you have installed or wish to use. Could you advise please?
Specifically which is set as default?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately MS made sure to make it as difficult as possible, only registered apps can be set as default.

Like in Thunderbird for example, you have to set it up as default from within first.

Thank you for confirming you are using Outlook. No need to use ! as this implies I should have realised that, which is not a reasonable assertion.

Repairing the mail client recpient can be tricky. A way round this is simply to create a shortcut to Outlook in your sendto folder.

    Access your sendto folder by
    Win key + r, shell:sendto

    then add the shortcut.

This works with Thunderbird, can't speak of Outlook.

Repairing/replacing the sendto mail recipient is not obvious. You can try this:
Right click send to mail recipient not working - Microsoft Community

@dalchina apologies, I have been working this issue for some time, following MS various routes, including repairing outlook. As said in the original post MS seem to indicate the only solution is to use the 32 bit version.

    32 bit version of Windows?

I've been through the problem of a broken mail recipient and did get it fixed eventually. My workaround- as published elsewhere- was to place a shortcut as I said. That's with 64 bit Windows.

If you mean Outloook- I have no experience of that, sorry.

Thunderbird had been set as the default email program . it appears the problem is elsewhere . all the defaults had been set .
