And this must be true because OldMike gets higher scores than me, with lower clocks speeds on his CPU & GPU, I just don't have the time or (the real truth) patience to fine tune and repeatedly run the same benchmark dozens of times over.

Thanks Cliff. I did slowly work my way up to this score. I started stock and just increased the core to start with then reached a limit with that so I then worked my way up with the memory. I did try dialing it back on both as I was aware of the less is often more but it just stays mid to high 11,000s.
The card seems to overclock well. It will bench at over 2100Mhz core and the memory will go to +1000 which comes in at 8200. It's Samsung memory.
What I do notice though and this is on other benchmarks such as Heaven, Valley, Firestrike etc is that although I can run much higher clocks than my 1080ti FTW3 the scores don't reflect. The 2080 scores lower clock for clock compared to the 1080ti if you get me.
It's fun trying it out but roll on the 2080ti next month. I will have some proper fun with that!

Thanks. So am I. The 2080 is fun but I suspect the Ti will be a lot more fun!

Hi guy's. I got a 2080 to test out for a few weeks (Planning on getting a 2080ti next month). It's a Zotac Amp Extreme core. As expected, it is not much different in performance over a 1080ti. It beats it in certain things but loses in others. I thought it would be interesting to see how it benches in comparison to my EVGA 1080ti FTW3 which I sold for a very good price. Will post up a few benchmarks over the various threads soon all with the card pretty much maxed out. Paul.
