    Jimbo says -
For that job I use MACRIUM and run the job daily / nightly or when I need to --for example if installing new hardware / complex software. You can always "Mount" the image so if you need a file on the "C" drive again just copy from the image --
This (in bold above) was what I found attractive in Macrium Reflect Free; that If I needed just one file in an image, I could mount, explore, copy a file, and then paste it.

Mounting and exploring an image is a valuable feature.

Also ability to mount image as a vm in hyper-v with viboot is great.

Ability to create a macrium boot entry is great, plus boot repair options makes Macrium Reflect the undoubted best choice.

so one question regarding macrium free , can I mount only the differential backup image to retrieve some files/folders in a worst case scenario or do I need full backup+ differential image ?

You can't make a differential image unless you have first made a full image. If you mount the differential it merges with the full image so you see the full file system.

No. Macrium supplies the means to mount it's own image. Just right click on the image file and chose "Explore Image"

That is just for individual files of course. For a full image restore you need to do that using a bootable Macrium rescue disk/USB. That is easy to create through the Macrium UI.

I did a YouTube tutorial many years ago on restoring a Macrium image. It hasn't changed much.
