Bitlocker, Setting System Restore Points, & Acronis

    Folks,

I recently began using Bitlocker on my new laptop that travels with sensitive data. I am new to encryption and have been reading what I have been able to find on Bitlocker.

I've been using Acronis for my backups on all of my computers for the last several years. In Acronis' documentation it specifically states to suspend Bitlocker for backups. I also perform some daily mini backups to a server in the house using Syncback. I suspend Bitlocker for those as well. All is well with these backups. However, I have not needed to do a full system restore since using Bitlocker.

Also as a part of my routine, I automatically set a restore point upon startup in the morning. I've been doing this for many years and it has saved me quite a few times. I have been suspending Bitlocker when I set those points. I've not been able to find any online posts or documentation about how Bitlocker works with restore points.

This weekend I thought that I had a virus. Everything slowed to a crawl on my new 16GB Ram Dell. So I go and grab a restore point. It didn't work. My thinking is now is that Bitlocker needs to be on while setting restore points. Can anyone speak to this? BTW, it turned out not to be a virus, but my husband. He was working down in the basement, downloading massive files, and croaking the internet.

    Thanks,

    Bitlocker crashed my Restore points

I thought I read a lot about Bitlocker before I put it on a partition that was empty first. I just tried to create a system restore point without disabling bitlocker or the turning off protection for that drive and windows gave me a warning that it could not make a restore point because of the some reason. I didn't read it all because I knew what it was, I thought. Bitlocker. So I went to disable the protection for that drive and then everything went bad. Multiple error messages and when it was all done, all my past restore points were lost. What have you done recently with it?

Have you guys/gals been making routine backups, not System Restore Points, on external media? Since I know next to nothing about BitLocker and SRP operations, I will listen in and learn alongside you both, and hope that others here will provide solutions to your respective situations!
