    Hi there

For moving /backing up large volumes of data -- DO IT with the STAND ALONE BOOTABLE version.

V.S.S is an abomination -- It's only really needed as it wants to lock the "C" partition if you are backing up while still using Windows. If you have a large amount of data on the "C" (OS) partition then V.S.S will usually always fail as it hasn't got enough spare space to create the OS snapshot data (for locking the partition).

On the stand alone version that's not a problem as V.S.S isn't used or needed.

Just create the boot media from Macrium and boot that -- works fine and no cludgy V.S.S to worry about.

Also only keep the OS and executable programs on the OS partition --keep data separate on other partitions or Disks.

    Cheers

3:30A, Just finish disk cleanup, had an hour or so of a dog emergency in the middle, so, not the entire 3 hrs. Used cleanmgr and cleaned my files, system files, AND ststem restore and shadow copies except latest.
The alarm is going to bloin less than 3hrs, so, as good a place as any to break till afyer work tomorrow, B back by 7PM.
THANX ALL! and yes, the problem persists, but I will checkk after a reboot to see what this brought about.

With this same exact hardware setup, does Macrium Reflect version 6 work aok? I want to rule in or rule out other possible contributory causes [be the causes hardware, software, or a combination thereof] that lead to the errors you posted.

From his first post, Page #1:

I had MR6 Free and decided to take the plunge with 7

He didn't explicitly say so, but this would indicate he was running ok with MR V6 free.

F14Tomcat, you're probably right as rain, I thought maybe the hardware setup might have been altered recently in the efforts to get MR7 working.

    3:00AM again alarm in 3.5
Sograbbed some screen shots you asked for after picking throiugh Crive and freeing up a few more GB. Reran DiscCleanup and followed your instructions, focused on 1,5,and 7and kept all checked files checked, scared off of it last time, that free'd up about 80MB.
Then hit a problem whe I should not have, and am still stuck here. Was not able to run System Protection, and it's off and I was not able to get it on, or even to read any drive, see screen shots. Thats when I went to start removong some programs from C: Also, could not run the VSS Shadow Storage List in an elevated CMD see screenshot after 20mins, here's the screen shots:
    Processing...x
(That PROCESSING juust popped on when I pasted my snip)
    Processing...x

    Drive size:
    Processing...x
    Processing...x
    Processing...x
    Processing...x
It does not appear that it like Snipping tool here. I"LL BE NOT A FREAKING SNIP WAS SAVED.........

OK, thats where I'm at now, slow rollin, On the upside I am not running VSS at 30% since freeing up those extra GB, now is MS will stop flooding my C: during updates....... I'm considering moving all win10 and system files to a dedicated external HDD, if I could find a way to make it work, too much crap has been loaded into my C; that i didnt catch, and more try to wind their way in there all the time it seems, they just dont appreciate the views from F; and E: apparently.

Mona tried to tell me, To stay away from the train line, She said that all the railroad men, Just drink up your blood like wine

Lambert! What are you doing? Sorry, your whole post just made me chuckle!

Get all the personal data off to an external drive, unplug it and hide it. Do a complete clean install, put MR6 back on (and leave it there), copy all your personal data back on. Check it out and back it up. That's what Mona would tell you.

Chuckle away, Lambert! My, that IS a nasty looking Disk Management screenshot. Clean install is not hard. The most important, MOST important, thing is to have your data backed up. Pics, docs, vids...that stuff. And keys. You can always reinstall any apps. Basically, if it's in your USERNAME/ folder, copy it all somewhere else offline. EXT drive, OneDrive, somewhere...and unplug it!

Clean install tutorial is pretty straight forward, and there is an Army of people here who have done many of them.

You've been beating yourself up for a while now fighting with this. At some point...........

Choice is yours. Would be nice, though, to have a clean machine ready for all the hoopla of Creator's Update coming Apr. 11th.

Give it some thought. Cheers. :) TC
