    Yes.

Yes. But if they had any programs/apps installed that they purchased licenses for you would, in essence, be pirating their programs/apps - at least until you uninstalled them.
I wouldn't because it was my office 2007. Which is allowed on 3 machines. But I would uninstall anyway as I have office 2016 pro now. I think I might put 10 professional on mine. But I am in 2 minds as I love windows 7 professional. Decisions decisions. I think I remember you saying that 7 won't work though correct?

Windows 7 will work as long as you have a product key for it and as long as there are hardware drivers available for Windows 7.

Ah for the new drive I take it you mean? I cancelled Macrium today it's taking forever but Seagate software is backing up now. And I don't know where this drive came from I think it might have been when I deleted winRE partition. It's the G drive I am talking about. Is that winRE created it's own partition? There is nothing to see when I go into it.

As long as you have either a retail product key for Windows 7, or an OEM product key for that particular computer for Windows 7 you will be able to install the version of Windows 7 that product key if for on the new hard drive. You might have to call the automatic Microsoft Activation phone number to activate it. If you have a product key for Windows 7 Ultimate, you have to install Windows 7 Ultimate, not Windows 7 Pro.

We can't tell what the new G: drive is unless we see it in disk management:

Do you still have the Orinco USB 3.0 disk drive case that you posted about a while ago? After you replace the hard drive in the laptop, you can just put the old hard drive in the USB case and copy the files from it until it dies completely.

Don't remember posting one of these going to look back and see what C drive said about itself if I did. No I haven't posted one someone else did. But it didn't show C Drive. Is that it saying C drive is a goner. Or is that normal?

In the screenshot posted in post #28, Macrium Reflect was showing that space as empty. Somewhere in this process something has created and formatted an NTFS partition in that empty space and it got the next drive letter available, which was G:. It probably is just an empty partition at this time.

Can I delete it or best not to? Could it have been the deletion of WinRE. I now know the other problem is Windows defender. Going back to Avast for now as I tried the Microsoft problem solver and did find one file extension to delete. Is that normal in C drive to see crash dump etc? I can't thank you enough for your help NavyLCDR. And I really mean that!

Where would you merge the G drive with. I deleted WinRE partition and I think that's where this has came from. But I can't be sure. But I do know it's the first time I have seen it. Thank you in advance.

If that is your old hard drive that appears to be failing, I would not do anything unnecessary with it. The more you write to it, the faster it is going to fail. Since you are going to replace that disk anyway, I would just leave G drive alone for now.
