System restore Error 0x80070091

Hi,


I was trying to perform a restore to fix
my favorites list menu and got this error.
I ran chkdsk C: /f /r /x and Windows Resource
Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Running WIN 10 Pro V 1607 Build 14393.693


I'm hoping somebody could help me
resolve this issue.

Not sure if you are running any AV aside from defender, but some of the AV's tamper protection that prevents changes to the AV files. This causes the error of not being able to do a restore. If you are running an AV, check to see if it has this feature & how to disable it while doing a restore.

No A/V other than Defender running here on either machine. It used to work fine and now it doesn't. IMHO MS screwed something up like they did with the Registry Editor quite some time back. It took them a long time to fix that but the good news is that they did eventually fix it.

I tried the solution over at that other thread but it didn't work for me...I just ran system restore again
and got the same error message. I can get the 1st 2 commands to work, but when it comes to deleting
or renaming the folder...for rename I get all access denied right down the line and for deleting it says
file/folder can't be found. I have Malwarebytes but it is set to manual.

Exact same error on two PC's I have here, both running 10 Pro. First time I've tried to use System Restore since both were updated with the Anniversary Update. Worked fine prior to 1607, so don't know if it was that update or something Microsoft patched since?
Anyway reported it to them on Friday - hopefully they'll listen and come up with a hotfix or patch...

I get the error on 1 machine with Pro and 1 machine with Home. Same here, haven't had the need for system restore recently, and then when I needed it, it didn't work. Glad I had a Macrium backup. :)

i had different error code but I was getting the same screen shot.

Double, triple check that you are the administrator and run system restore in save mode.

It worked for me.
